Invented as a synthetic substitute for rubber, Silly Putty was the result of attempts to create new materials during the war. Super Glue, or cyanoacrylate, was initially researched for military use, particularly for gun sights. Scientists found it incredibly sticky, but the glue's instant adhesion was problematic for its intended application. After the war, it found its way into everyday use and is now a common household adhesive.
