I choose to buy Chanel in SG and here’s why

I’m like any Singaporean, I traveled to Japan trying to find my Chanel 25 (it’s one of my 2 goals of booking a flight over).

I went to the Ginza boutique and started queueing at 11:45am (they open at 12) and was already probably first 100 in line. I got to scan their QR code to come back when it’s my turn (approx. 1hour later). I got a SA who brought out the Pink Chanel 25 in Small size (no black unfortunately). I was TORN, then I asked if they had any other neutral colors and she ROLLED her eyes at me and asked “I thought you wanted pink?” wow the audacity. I said I wanted to consider as my wardrobe is very single tone and pink would be hard to match. She went and took out a Grey color which I couldn’t decide. I asked her for her opinion and she then said “Pink looks too pretty on you” and “the grey is not grey”???? Like wth are you trying to make a sale or not??? Also I asked for the price and she was so secretive and didn’t even wanna show me the tag to see if it’s from 26P collection???? Anyway I was appalled with her service I decided to walk away.

Later throughout the day I went to ALL Chanel boutiques in Tokyo and none had stock. Before Ginza boutique closed I went back and they turned me down cause they’ve no more Q to give out. Ok fine, next day I went back at 3pm and they said the SAME. Even though I said I’m ready to make a purchase (only with a diff SA).

I had enough of this crap. So came back to SG, and initially my boyfriend still wanted us to try it in Korea since we’re flying soon, but I didn’t want to leave it to chance and most certainly I did not want to queue like a 🐶

So yes, went back to my trusty boutique at MBS, went in at 9:30pm, out at 9:40pm. I was brought into their makeshift private room, presented with the choices, drinks and great hospitality from the SA albeit not the one I usually buy from.

And tbh the savings between Japan and SG isn’t really that much anyway. The rude SA told me with tax free it’s about $8.6K after conversion, SG is $9090. 🤦‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

... Read moreWhen it comes to purchasing luxury items like a Chanel bag, many people assume traveling abroad will offer better prices or exclusive selections. From my personal experience, while Japan is known for its fashion-forward boutiques, the shopping experience there can sometimes be challenging due to limited stock, long wait times, and customer service that doesn’t always meet expectations. In Singapore, although the price difference after tax refunds might appear slightly higher, the convenience and pleasant shopping atmosphere make a huge difference. Singapore boutiques often provide a private, comfortable space where you can take your time choosing the perfect bag, with staff who are attentive and respectful. Additionally, buying in Singapore saves the hassle of queuing for hours or returning multiple times on chance alone. For those who prioritize a smooth purchase over minor cost savings, local boutiques like those at Marina Bay Sands are a reliable option. Furthermore, Singapore's boutiques are generally well-stocked with current collections, so you don’t have to worry about missing out on your desired color or size. It also helps that the prices are transparent, and you can confirm the collection and authenticity of the bag easily. If you plan to purchase a Chanel bag, I highly recommend considering your priority between price, convenience, and service quality. For me, having a pleasant experience and guaranteed availability made buying in Singapore far more worthwhile than the uncertainty and stress faced in Tokyo.

I got from Haneda airport. The SA there is so much nicer. I think all luxury boutiques in Tokyo have very bad attitude n they even gave me display pieces 😭
