My Wedding SDJ: How we got our watches from AD!

Fun fact: My boyfriend bought this rolex for me when we barely dated for a year, we also waited for ~2-3 months for this surprise from our AD.

My bf had built his relationship with his SA since Covid. He got his first Root Beer GMT from there with a few months wait. After we got together, I shared with him how I’ve always wanted to own a Rolex and have been on a waitlist at Cortina for >2 years but haven’t heard back since. He brought me to his SA, tried on a few pieces and waitlisted a TT DJ31 with a pink dial.

~3 months wait and off we went to collect this baby. It has also formed part of my 四点金 though it’s half-gold 🤪

Anyway after this we also continued our collection and pocketed 2 more couple GMTs (Batgirl and Batman)!!

Even though steel pieces are timeless, I really like Root Beer so since 喜事成双 he’s also giving his Root Beer to me as part of a pair of watches for my 四点金.

Hopefully we can make the Root Beer a pair with a full gold one (provided we have tons of disposable income 🤪)

Also, thank god all these happened back in 2024. Couldn’t have imagined paying today’s prices for our watches at retail!

... Read moreBuying a Rolex from an authorized dealer (AD) is often a rewarding yet patient journey that many watch lovers can relate to. From my personal experience, building a strong relationship with the Sales Associate (SA) at the AD can make a significant difference in availability and personalized service. My boyfriend had been cultivating a good connection with his SA since the Covid period, which helped him secure his first Root Beer GMT after a few months of waiting. One important lesson I learned is that waitlists at reputable dealers like Cortina can be long and often unpredictable. I was on a waitlist for over two years with no updates, but switching to my boyfriend’s SA allowed me to try a few pieces in person before finally waitlisting the TT DJ31 with the charming pink dial. This personalized approach made the process more engaging and gave a greater sense of confidence and excitement when the watch was finally ready to be collected. Another tip for those looking to buy Rolex watches is to have patience and keep communication frequent but respectful with your SA. Watches like the Batgirl and Batman GMTs are extremely popular and steel Rolex models often have long waits or premiums above retail, so investing time to build rapport can be key. As a fan of the Root Beer GMT, I appreciated the sentimental meaning our couple’s collection took on with the 喜事成双 (good things come in pairs) concept. Even though steel pieces are classics, the warm tones of the Root Beer blend beautifully with half-gold models, adding a unique flair to a watch collection. Lastly, I’m thankful we managed to purchase these watches in 2024 before significant price jumps at retail. The current market trend shows even higher premiums and longer wait times, so investing in watches sooner rather than later has thoughtful benefits. For anyone collecting luxury watches, combining patience, relationships with trusted ADs, and clear personal preferences make all the difference in this exciting journey.
