POV: It’s 1981 and you rode your bike into the streetlights came on 🏡

3/20 Edited to

... Read moreGrowing up in the early 1980s, one of my favorite routines was biking around the neighborhood until the streetlights switched on. It was like a natural curfew, signaling it was time to head back home. Those moments were more than just playtime; they represented freedom, adventure, and community bonding. Everyone in the neighborhood seemed to share this unspoken agreement—ride until the gas lamps glowed, laughter filled the air, and the day transitioned into night. There were no smartphones or digital distractions back then—it was pure, unstructured fun. Kids would race on sidewalks, play tag in the fading daylight, and discover new places on their bikes. The streetlights themselves seemed almost magical, casting a warm glow that made the streets feel cozy and safe. Parents would often peek out their windows, scanning for their kids but also trusting in the neighborhood’s communal spirit. Recalling those days brings a wave of nostalgia for simpler times. Today, biking after dark is less common for kids due to safety concerns, but that old ritual of biking until the streetlights came on remains a cherished childhood memory for many. It highlights how technology and societal changes have transformed playtime, yet also reminds us how valuable those unstructured moments of outdoor activity were in shaping friendships and independence.

Four Anti-Anxiety Activities
Here are my four favourite activities to reduce anxiety: 1. Journal. Every morning before I start my day I like to journal for at least 5 min. I have noticed such a big difference on the days that I journal versus the ones that I forgot to journal. 2. Clean your room. No matter how busy or st

Gen X is the best
Growing up Gen X meant being told to go outside, come back when the streetlights came on, and somehow know if you were dead or in trouble without texting anybody. Our childhood was just: “Be home by dark” and “I don’t know, use your common sense.” #genx #women #mom
