Sexual wellness, let's talk about it!

CVS really has an entire section dedicated to protection, emergency contraception, and sexual wellness… and honestly this is a conversation more people need to have.

Even though abstinence & celibacy are the safest routes spiritually and physically for many people, the reality is everybody isn’t in that phase of life right now. So if you ARE sexually active, protecting yourself matters. 🤍

The CDC reported over 2.2 million STI cases in the U.S. in 2024 alone, and overall STI numbers are still significantly higher than they were a decade ago. Syphilis rates and congenital syphilis cases especially have been alarming.

Walking through CVS I noticed how many options are actually available now:

▫️Trojan & Magnum condoms

▫️SKYN condoms (latex-free option)

▫️Opill — the first OTC daily birth control pill

▫️Plan B, Julie, & Aftera emergency contraceptives

▫️Honey Pot feminine products

A lot of people still don’t know what Opill is 👀

It’s an over-the-counter daily birth control pill you can buy without a prescription. You have to take it consistently around the same time every day for it to work properly, and it DOES NOT protect against STDs/STIs… which is why condoms are still important too.

This post isn’t about judging anybody. It’s about awareness, protection, and making informed decisions because the world today is very different.

Protect your peace. Protect your body. Protect your future. 🤍

... Read moreNavigating sexual wellness can feel overwhelming, but with the right knowledge and resources, you can protect your health and peace of mind effectively. For many of us, understanding the variety of contraception and protection options available at places like CVS makes a big difference in feeling confident about sexual health choices. One personal insight is how convenient and accessible the first OTC daily birth control pill, Opill, makes contraception for people without a prescription. It requires daily consistent use at roughly the same time to be effective. However, it does not guard against STIs, emphasizing that condoms remain an essential dual-protection method. From my experience, combining condoms with daily birth control can offer both pregnancy prevention and protection against infections. Speaking of condoms, the availability of multiple types such as Trojan, Magnum, and SKYN—especially SKYN’s latex-free version—is a game changer. For those with latex allergies or sensitivities, SKYN condoms provide comfort without compromising on protection. Additionally, exploring lubricant options can enhance safety and pleasure during intercourse, reflecting more holistic sexual wellness. It’s also important to be aware of emergency contraceptives like Plan B, Julie, and Aftera. These are critical for avoiding unintended pregnancies after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure but should not be relied on as regular birth control. Understanding when and how to use them correctly can prevent stress and health risks. I’ve found that honest conversations about sexual health reduce stigma and encourage responsible behavior. With the CDC reporting over 2.2 million STI cases in the U.S. in 2024, including rising syphilis and congenital syphilis cases, awareness is vital. Regular STI testing and open dialogue with partners and healthcare providers support overall well-being. Lastly, integrating sexual wellness into your self-care routine helps protect not just your body but also your mental health, relationships, and future. Remember, sexual health decisions are deeply personal and should align with your values, life phase, and health needs. Staying informed, using protection wisely, and seeking professional advice whenever in doubt are key to maintaining your sexual wellness in today’s complex world.
