Should men really pay for everything?
Okay, let's really dive deep into this sometimes awkward, sometimes telling topic: *men not paying for dates*. I've been there, and I know many of you have too! We've all seen the debates online: "MEN SHOULD PAY FOR EVERYTHING!" or "Split the bill, it's 2024!" So, what's the deal when you're on a date and your date doesn't reach for the check? First, let's acknowledge that expectations vary wildly. Some women still expect men to pay for *everything*, especially on a first or second date. For them, it's a sign of chivalry, generosity, or even that he's serious about you. If a man doesn't pay in this scenario, it can feel like a huge letdown or even disrespectful. It's almost like, "IS TAKING me out that simple, or do you value me enough to cover this?" On the other hand, many people, both men and women, are moving towards more egalitarian dating dynamics. The idea of splitting the bill or even the woman paying is becoming more common. For some, it's about financial independence, for others, it's about fairness. I've personally been on dates where I've offered to split, and some guys immediately agree, while others insist on paying. It really gives you a glimpse into their perspective! So, what if a guy genuinely doesn't offer to pay? It's not always a red flag. Sometimes, he might be testing the waters to see if you wanted to contribute. Other times, he might be genuinely struggling financially, and being upfront about it (or even subtly hinting) could be a sign of honesty, not stinginess. I've also encountered situations where a man assumes the woman wants to pay her share to show independence. It's tricky because there's no universal rule. My advice? Communication, even non-verbal, is key. If you're someone who prefers the man to pay, you might subtly wait for him to grab the bill. If he doesn't, you can always offer to split, and see his reaction. His response can tell you a lot. Does he eagerly agree, or does he insist on taking care of it? And if he never offers? Well, that's a whole different conversation. Ultimately, for me, it's less about the money itself and more about the gesture and the respect. Is he considerate? Does he communicate? Does he appreciate your time? THAT'S HOW I gauge a date, more than just who picks up the tab. While it's nice when someone offers, I've learned that true compatibility goes far beyond the bill. What are your thoughts, ladies? Have you had experiences where men not paying for dates changed your perspective on them?
