✨ Real Talk: Life After GLP-1 Medication ✨

This is what lunch looks like a month after stopping Mounjaro (after being on it for 5+ months). As a Type 1 Diabetic of 28 years, I’m navigating this transition while trying to maintain my 33.9 pound weight loss.

The reality? I had to stop because I couldn’t afford it anymore – something many of us face with these medications. But the habits and relationship with food I developed STAYED with me.

What you’re seeing:

• Cottage cheese (protein + calcium with minimal carbs)

• Braunschweiger (nostalgic comfort food in moderation)

• Ritz crackers (because balance means enjoying what you love)

• Apple slices (fiber + natural sweetness)

• Sweet pickles (flavor without the guilt)

The biggest lesson I’ve learned? While GLP-1 medications physically change hunger signals, the MENTAL shift around food can remain even after stopping. I still don’t count calories - just carbs for insulin calculations. That mental freedom hasn’t disappeared.

Building different means adapting to life’s changes while holding onto the lessons. This simple lunch plate still gives me stable blood sugar, sustained energy, and zero feelings of deprivation - even without Mounjaro.

Who else had to stop their GLP-1 medication due to cost? How are you maintaining your progress? 🤎✨

... Read moreNavigating life post-GLP-1 medication can be challenging, especially for those with type 1 diabetes. It's essential to adapt your meal choices to maintain your health and weight loss. Incorporating protein-rich foods like cottage cheese can help with blood sugar stabilization while enjoying traditional comfort foods in moderation is crucial for mental well-being. For diabetics focusing on nutrition, emphasizing fiber-rich fruits like apples and low-carb snacks can keep energy levels up without feelings of deprivation. Monitoring carbohydrate intake is vital for insulin management, but it’s equally important to foster a positive relationship with food. Sharing experiences with others who have faced similar challenges may also provide support. Consider joining relevant communities or forums online where you can exchange tips and find motivation with hashtags like #t1d and #glp1. Remember, while the medication aids in physical hunger cues, the mental strategies you build can last a lifetime.
