What I wish I knew in my 20’s: Dating Tips

1. DON’T focus on one guy. What I mean by this is don’t focus your attention on dating one guy unless he proves himself worthy of your undivided attention and he makes his intentions crystal clear. If you get even the slightest inkling that he’s playing games, his actions do not align with what he says and he doesn’t possess the qualities you value and want in a partner. Flee like a cheetah in the Sahara desert and don’t look back.

2. Back away from the narcissist! This can be tough because they are manipulative and younger women tend to be easier to manipulate. And manipulation can be confusing and seduce you. Narcissistic men can also be intriguing and smart and these qualities are attractive. But this relationship will be hot or cold, you will constantly be confused, emotionally drained and this person will eventually control all your emotions. Once a person has given another person control over whether they have a good or bad day it will become difficult to leave because they determine your sadness or happiness. And trust me there will be more sadness than happiness while with them. Avoid a narcissist at all cost!

3. Don’t waste your time on indecisive men. Don’t go with the flow because you’re not a river. If they are unsure about you they don’t want you, it’s that simple. Women sometimes cannot understand this and don’t always take rejection well and some of us will spend a lifetime thinking we can change a man and we can’t. A man that wants you will make it very clear. Your soulmate will not run from you. The relationship will be easy and come with no confusion which brings me to my next point.

4. Don’t allow yourself to go through a hazing process. If a man cares about you, loves you, and respects you he will not make you suffer physically, emotionally or mentally. A man that wants you and is meant for you will bring you peace of mind.

5. Men that come back after you’ve had a failed dating experience with them still don’t want you. Dubbed as spinning the block don’t take this as a compliment because it’s not, quite the opposite in fact and shows how little they respect you. Understand men are creatures of habit and despite what women may think most men do not have a plethora of women they can call when they want intimacy. In fact statistics show that there are more male virgins than women virgins in the world and if they know they can have you with little to no effort they will always come back. But this does not mean they want you it just means they know you’re available. Don’t think this type of relationship or situationship rather will blossom into anything meaningful, sorry to tell you but it won’t. It’s not in the recipe love.

... Read moreHey everyone! Building on my initial insights, I wanted to dive a little deeper into those crucial dating tips I wish I knew in my 20s, and share how to truly put these quick rules into action. Dating in your twenties can be exhilarating but also confusing, and having a clear set of guidelines can make all the difference. These are truly what I've learned through my own journey to cultivate healthier relationships and protect my peace. Applying My Quick Dating Rules in Your 20s: Don't Focus on One Guy Too Soon: This isn't about playing games; it's about protecting your emotional investment. How do you know if he's not proving himself? If he's inconsistent with communication, makes vague future plans, or only initiates contact when it's convenient for him, consider it a sign. Continue to explore your options. You don't need to commit to someone who hasn't committed to showing up for you consistently. Keep meeting new people – it helps you understand your worth and what you truly desire in a partner. Back Away from the Narcissist, Quickly: Narcissists thrive on manipulation, and in your 20s, you might be more susceptible to their charm. Beyond the obvious hot-and-cold treatment, look for subtle signs: constant 'joking' that cuts you down, an inability to take responsibility for *anything*, and a relentless need for admiration. If you frequently feel emotionally drained, confused, or find yourself constantly apologizing for things that aren't your fault, it's time to create distance. Your well-being comes first. Don't Waste Time on Indecisive Men: An indecisive man isn’t confused; he’s simply not choosing you wholeheartedly. They often string you along with just enough attention to keep you interested but never fully commit. Phrases like, "I'm not ready for a relationship right now, but I love spending time with you," are classic. Your time and emotional energy are valuable. If someone isn't enthusiastically pursuing a genuine connection, you deserve to walk away confidently. No Hazing, Period: A true partner respects you. Any relationship that causes consistent anxiety, makes you feel like you're constantly being tested, or forces you to 'earn' their affection through suffering – emotional, mental, or physical – is not healthy. This isn't love; it's a power play. A man who genuinely cares will bring peace, not endless hurdles. Believe me, you don't have to suffer to prove your worth. Understand 'Spinning the Block' for What It Is: When an ex reappears, it can feel like validation, but rarely is it a sign of true, changed interest. More often, they're looking for convenience and familiarity. Ask yourself: have they genuinely grown? Has your situation or their intentions changed? If not, the outcome will likely be the same as before. You are not a fallback option; you deserve someone who prioritizes you from the start. Two More Quick Rules for a Thriving Dating Life in Your 20s: Always Trust Your Gut Instincts: This is perhaps the most crucial of all the dating tips. That little voice in your head, that feeling in your stomach – it’s usually right. If something feels off, it probably is. Don't ignore red flags or rationalize away concerning behavior. Your intuition is a powerful protector. Know Your Non-Negotiables and Boundaries: Before you even start dating, identify what you absolutely need in a relationship and what you absolutely won't tolerate. This helps you screen potential partners quickly and avoid investing in situations that will ultimately lead to heartache. Stick to your boundaries; they teach others how to treat you. These are the truly vital things I wish I knew in my 20s. Embrace these quick dating rules and remember, your dating journey is about learning, growing, and ultimately finding a partner who brings joy, respect, and genuine partnership into your life.
