Why female friendships are important

Let me preface this by saying I have not always had friends. There was a period in my life (early to mid twenties) when I didn’t have any. So I’m not speaking from a biased place of someone that has always had friends or the ability to make and keep friendships going.

I consider myself to be an introverted person so none of this has been natural or easy for me and I understand the struggle of making friends and maintaining friendships. And this post is not intended to bring anyone down. Instead it is meant to uplift and inform as I feel like the friendships I’ve cultivated have added so much light and happiness to my life.

I do believe there are times in our lives that we are better off solo and you’ve been put in that position for reason but I can tell you from experience staying that way for long periods of time can be damaging to your mental and emotional health and personal development.

There have been many times when I thought being alone was what I needed to get through a tough situation but in fact in was the opposite. Getting out and being around people helped me to realize my situation wasn’t so bad and that life will continue to go on. Instead of staying in alone and obsessing over problems I was more than likely making bigger or worse by overthinking.

Aside from doing it for your mental and emotional health you should also be doing it for personal growth. A lot of women are very quick to jump in and out of relationships with men and have no one outside of that relationship which can become an issue in a relationship and some men will view it as a red flag.

(I’ve done this👆🏾)

Not having any friends outside of your intimate relationships can put stress on your partner and relationship. It can lead them to feel like they are your sole source of companionship and entertainment which is a heavy burden. The ability to make and keep friends shows that you are capable of maintaining relationships and relationships can move your life forward and upward.

If you’re having trouble I’d recommend checking out apps. (We use them for everything else!). Take advantage of the resources available to you. I have had success using Bumblebff. It was a starting point when I moved back to NY in 2018 and have since made friends through work and through others.

If you do not have friends do not feel down or bad! Many people are in the same position and I am a firm believer that if you actively put in the effort to change your situation or life eventually you will. Eventually you will catch up to the version of yourself you want to be and it will feel as if you never missed out on anything.

Female friendships are important for a variety of reasons, and they play a significant role in many women's lives. Here are some reasons why female friendships are crucial:

1. Emotional support: Female friendships provide a safe space for women to share their thoughts, feelings, and vulnerabilities. Friends can offer empathy, understanding, and comfort during difficult times, providing emotional support that is essential for mental well-being.

2. Shared experiences: Female friendships often involve shared experiences, such as life events, challenges, and milestones. Having friends who can relate to what you are going through can create a sense of camaraderie and connection.

3. Empowerment: Female friendships can be empowering, as friends can offer encouragement, motivation, and inspiration to help each other reach their goals and pursue their passions. Friends can boost each other's confidence and self-esteem.

4. Communication and collaboration: Women tend to be more communicative and collaborative in their friendships, which can lead to deeper connections and more meaningful relationships. Friends can provide different perspectives, offer advice, and help each other problem-solve.

5. Health benefits: Research has shown that having strong social connections, including female friendships, can have positive effects on both mental and physical health. Friendships can reduce stress, improve mood, and even increase longevity.

6. Fun and enjoyment: Female friendships often involve laughter, shared interests, and enjoyable activities. Spending time with friends can bring joy, laughter, and a sense of fulfillment to life.

7. Support during life transitions: Female friendships can be especially important during life transitions such as moving to a new city, starting a new job, getting married, or becoming a parent. Friends can provide guidance, advice, and a sense of stability during times of change.

Overall, female friendships are important for emotional well-being, personal growth, support, and enjoyment. Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with other women can have a positive impact on various aspects of a woman's life.

... Read moreBuilding and maintaining female friendships, especially as an introvert like me, can sometimes feel like a daunting task. But I've learned firsthand that the rewards are immeasurable, truly making it a '9/9 record' for personal well-being. Beyond the general benefits, what truly makes these connections vital is the unique depth of emotional support they offer. It's not just about having someone to talk to; it's about having a sounding board who understands unspoken cues, celebrates your smallest victories, and holds space for your biggest fears without judgment. I remember a time when I was grappling with a tough career decision, and my female friends didn't just listen—they shared their own experiences, offered different perspectives, and helped me see solutions I hadn't considered. That kind of insight and non-judgmental feedback is invaluable for personal growth. These are the moments when a friend provides that crucial mirror, reflecting your strengths when you can only see weaknesses, and helping you clarify your thoughts amidst confusion. For anyone struggling to forge these bonds, remember that authenticity is key. Start by being genuinely present in conversations. Ask open-ended questions and truly listen to the answers. Instead of waiting for invitations, try initiating simple meet-ups: a coffee, a walk, or a shared hobby. Apps like Bumblebff are a great starting point, but the real work begins when you move past the initial connection. Follow up, remember details about their lives, and be consistent. It’s a reciprocal effort; you have to put in what you hope to get out. Even small gestures, like a thoughtful text or remembering a significant date, can go a long way in solidifying a bond. Nurturing these friendships means showing up, not just for the fun times, but especially during the tough ones. It's about being the person you'd want in your corner. This mutual support builds resilience and strengthens your mental health, helping you navigate life's ups and downs with a stronger sense of self. When you’re feeling overwhelmed, a female friend can offer a perspective that your partner or family might miss, understanding the nuances of your experiences as a woman. They can validate your feelings and remind you that you’re not alone, turning feelings of isolation into connection. Moreover, these friendships are powerful catalysts for personal growth. They challenge us to step outside our comfort zones, encouraging us to pursue new hobbies, take risks, or confront insecurities. My friends have inspired me to try new things, from hiking trails I thought were too difficult to speaking up more in professional settings. Their belief in me often outpaced my own, pushing me to achieve more than I thought possible. They hold us accountable to our goals and celebrate our successes, big or small, fostering an environment where self-esteem blossoms. The impact isn't just immediate; it’s long-lasting. Strong female friendships contribute significantly to overall life satisfaction and happiness. They provide a continuous source of joy, laughter, and a sense of belonging that can sometimes be overlooked but is undeniably essential for a rich and fulfilling life. Investing in these relationships is investing in your own well-being, creating a support network that will uplift you through every chapter, proving time and again why these connections are truly important.

Let’s Talk: Outgrowing Friendships Is OK
We don’t talk about this enough. It’s one of the hardest things to accept, but it’s also one of the most important for growth. Sometimes we hold onto connections out of history, not harmony. As you evolve, your circle might shift, and that’s okay. Not every friendship is meant to last forever, and
