THE ASSASSIN’S BLADE

I just finished The Assassin’s Blade!

My Goodreads Review:

For context I read this as the first book in the ToG series - I really enjoyed this!! I think the short story format made it a lot more enjoyable because you got to consume the more important bits of her story! I’m excited to continue reading on :)

... Read moreDiving into Sarah J. Maas's The Assassin's Blade as my first Throne of Glass experience was an emotional rollercoaster, especially when it came to Sam. It's clear why so many readers are searching for 'Sam Assassin's Blade' and 'what chapter does Sam die' – his story is incredibly impactful and leaves a lasting impression. For anyone starting the Throne of Glass series, this collection of novellas, often recommended as the optimal 'Throne of Glass book order' opener, introduces us to Celaena Sardothien's past and, crucially, her relationship with Sam Cortland. The OCR details several key moments that make their bond so compelling and ultimately, so tragic. We see pages depicting Celaena and Sam's tender romantic exchanges and kisses, discussing a future together and even offering apologies. These intimate glimpses into their dreams and shared vulnerabilities – like their conversations about dangers in the Vaults – truly deepen the emotional stakes. It’s those hopeful, heartfelt moments that amplify the heartbreak when their story takes its inevitable turn. Sam's character, despite his relatively short time on the page, is unforgettable. The OCR highlights his interactions, showing Celaena playfully calling someone an 'idiot' before grasping his face and kissing him, or Celaena revealing her golden hair to Rolfe to distract him, allowing Sam to escape. These aren't just action sequences; they're moments that showcase their deep trust and affection. That's why the query 'assassin's blade sam' resonates so much with readers – he's more than just a plot device; he's a vital part of Celaena's heart and history. While I won't spoil the exact chapter for 'what chapter does Sam die in Assassin's Blade,' I can tell you that his fate is a defining moment for Celaena. It’s the catalyst for much of her motivation and pain throughout the subsequent Throne of Glass novels. Experiencing this prequel first truly allows you to grasp the depth of her grief and resilience, making her journey through the entire series far more profound. The original review's 'but also sam :(' perfectly encapsulates this feeling. Beyond Sam, the novellas are rich with other crucial insights and provide many 'the assassin's blade quotes' that stick with you. For instance, we see Celaena's interactions with other characters like Ansel, discussing friendship and making amends, which adds layers to her personality. The way Sarah J. Maas crafts these stories, revealing Celaena's complexities and her unwavering resolve to repay debts, makes this prequel an essential read. It's a powerful, often gut-wrenching, introduction to a beloved fantasy world and its intricate characters, setting the stage for the epic adventures of Celaena Sardothien.
