COLOR WITH ME!

Hey everyone! There’s nothing quite like unwinding with a good coloring session, right? I wanted to share a little more about my current creative escape, especially since so many of you are curious about my process when I say 'color this picture!' My go-to lately has been this absolutely charming Coco Wyo coloring book. Seriously, if you haven't checked out their art, you're missing out! The paper quality is fantastic, and the illustrations are just so whimsical and detailed. I've been working on this gorgeous uncolored garden scene, and I also tackled that partially colored illustration of the girl watering plants in a greenhouse – it really came to life with color! The lines are crisp, making it a joy to work with, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned colorist. Now, let's talk tools! For vibrant, smooth coverage, my absolute favorites are the Caliart alcohol brush markers. They glide on so beautifully, and the blending capabilities are just incredible. I always recommend doing a quick color swatch chart before you start on your main piece, just to see how the colors lay down and interact. Alcohol markers are fantastic for achieving seamless gradients and bold pops of color, which is essential for making those garden scenes look lush and alive. A little tip: always keep a piece of scrap paper underneath your page to prevent bleed-through, as alcohol markers can saturate the paper. And for those magical finishing touches? Gelly Roll pens are my secret weapon! They're perfect for adding bright white accents, highlights, or even tiny intricate details that really make an illustration sing. Just a few strokes can add so much dimension, making dew drops sparkle or lending a bright gleam to an eye. I find they layer wonderfully over the alcohol markers once the base colors are dry. If you're looking to dive into coloring or even just enhance your current skills, here are a few extra tips I've picked up: Layering is Key: Don't try to get full opacity with one stroke, especially with alcohol markers. Build up your colors in layers for smoother transitions and richer tones. Color Palette: Before you start, pick out your main colors. Sometimes I even use a digital palette tool to ensure my choices will look harmonious. Light Source: Think about where your light source would be in the picture. This helps immensely when deciding where to add highlights with your Gelly Roll pens and where to deepen shadows. Practice Blending: Alcohol markers are fantastic for blending, but it takes a little practice. Try blending two similar shades first, then move on to more contrasting colors.
