Coffee Hopping in Bukit Merah

Celebrated my birthday recently with my family and my husband brought us to 3 different coffee places that are of walking distances from each other.

1️⃣ Kyuukei Coffee

This was our first stop! We ordered a flat white ($5) and a batch brew filter coffee ($4) with a banana bread ($4.50). The batch brew is different from a usual pour over hence it’s cheaper. I honestly don’t know what’s the detailed difference 😅

But.. We were blown away by the Guiben coffee beans that we chose for the flat white. It honestly tasted like rum & raisin. The smell was so strong, definitely worth a try! The banana bread and vegemite toasties were not bad too.

I like the small space outdoors and open concept which promotes very cosy vibes.

2️⃣ Anagram Coffee

Located in anchor point! We dropped by after our lunch there. We got a decaf latte because I didn’t want too much caffeine in my system.

They offer a house blend and an anniversary blend which only has espresso options while the other 4 has espresso and filter options. Overall, a good cup of coffee!

3️⃣ Rookie’s Coffee Shop

Our last stop, and I was a little dehydrated at this point 🤣 There’s a one customer, one cup of coffee policy here so be sure to order a cup for each person in your group.

They serve the filter coffee in a unique cup: Ni Wares Bouba. It has a thicker and thinner side to accommodate different lip sizes and bring out different taste of the coffee as it touches different parts of your tongue. Perhaps I am not well educated with coffee, but I struggled to taste the difference 🥲

Their hot white was pretty well balanced and it tasted like graham crackers after it cooled!

... Read moreBukit Merah is truly a gem for coffee lovers looking to explore unique and quality cafes without traveling far. If you're planning your own coffee hopping day, here are some tips I gathered from my experience to help you make the most of it. Firstly, consider starting early to avoid the afternoon crowd and to fully enjoy the ambiance of each place. Kyuukei Coffee impressed me with its cozy open concept space and a flat white that had rich rum & raisin notes thanks to their Guiben coffee beans from Yunnan, China. It's also great to pair your coffee with their banana bread or vegemite toasties for a quick snack. Anagram Coffee in Anchorpoint is another fantastic stop, especially if you want to try a decaf option without compromising on quality. Their unique house and anniversary blends showcase a range of coffee profiles, and you can choose from espresso or filter options depending on your preference. At Rookie's Coffee Shop, be prepared to order one cup per person as you savor their hot white coffee, served in their special Ni Wares Bouba cup designed to engage different parts of your palate. I loved the graham cracker notes that developed as my coffee cooled, which made the experience quite delightful. When coffee hopping in Bukit Merah, wearing comfortable shoes is a must since the cafes are within walking distance. Also, bring some cash as some small outlets may have limited card payment options. Lastly, enjoy the neighborhood vibes – Bukit Merah offers more than just coffee; it's a place where you can soak in local charm with every cup.
