will there be sunsets in heaven? 🌅

Continuing my musings on eternity, the thought of what heaven might look like truly captivates me. While my original post questioned the presence of sunsets, the more I ponder, the more I realize the depth of beauty we experience here on Earth, even in simple moments, must be just a hint of what awaits us. For me, sunsets aren't just beautiful; they're profound. Each evening, as the sky paints itself with those soft pink and orange hues, or even explodes into dramatic reds, I feel a deep connection to something much larger than myself. I’ve spent countless evenings watching the sky from my own backyard, sometimes seeing a golden retriever resting peacefully as the colors fade. These moments, whether framed by a simple wooden fence or adorned with string lights, feel like a sacred pause, a reminder of God's incredible artistry. They're fleeting, yes, making them all the more precious, and I often wonder if their temporary nature here makes us appreciate the promise of eternal beauty even more. The Bible doesn't explicitly mention sunsets in heaven, but it speaks of a new heaven and a new earth, a place of unimaginable glory where God's light is omnipresent. Revelation 21:23 says, "And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp." This suggests a light source far superior to our sun, a constant, radiant glory. So, perhaps the concept of 'sunset' as we know it—the sun dipping below the horizon—won't exist. Instead, maybe the beauty will be an unceasing, ever-changing display of God's glory, a perpetual "sunrise" or "golden hour" that never ends. But even without sunsets as we know them, I believe the divine artistry we admire in earthly sunsets will be perfected and amplified in heaven. Imagine skies painted with colors beyond our earthly spectrum, a canvas constantly renewed by God's presence. Every 'gambaran surga' (picture of heaven) we've ever imagined, every beautiful 'wallpaper surga' we've seen, pales in comparison to what our Creator has in store. The peace, the awe, the feeling of being utterly enveloped in beauty that a perfect sunset brings – that's what I envision, just on an eternal, grander scale. These positive sunset moments, these daily reminders of creation's splendor, serve as tiny glimpses of the divine. They reassure me that if our temporary home can hold such wonders, our eternal home will be infinitely more magnificent. So whether it's the familiar warmth of a golden sunset or an entirely new manifestation of God's light, I'm excited to experience the eternal canvas He's preparing for us. It's truly something to look forward to.
