Parenting Teens with ADHD & Anxiety

Parenting is hard regardless! We are just getting off of Winter ❄️ Break and heading to a family Christmas function. We weren’t able to visit all our family during Christmas 🎄. My teen is in show choir and seems so stressed out!

We attempted to restrict her internet usage but today she shared she never finished her homework for show choir (record videos of dances up coming competition). 😔

Up until now she’s unmedicated. 💊

We are waiting for our new insurance to cover her new medication.

She starts therapy in March. 📆

We tried apps, paper charts, internet and phone usage is limited.

I don’t know what else to do.

... Read moreParenting teens diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety can be an overwhelming experience. It's crucial to understand how these conditions affect their daily lives, particularly when it comes to stress triggers. For example, many teens feel immense pressure during events such as show choir performances, leading to anxiety and academic challenges. To support your teen effectively, consider implementing structured routines that provide stability, as predictability can often alleviate anxiety. Keeping communication open about their feelings and stressors encourages teens to share rather than hold back their worries. Therapy can also play a key role, as it equips teens with coping mechanisms and emotional tools. Additionally, collaborating with professionals for therapeutic interventions and discussing medication options with healthcare providers can be beneficial. Keep exploring resources like parenting workshops and support groups focused on ADHD and anxiety, where you can connect with other parents facing similar challenges. Ensuring your teen engages in activities they enjoy can also help boost their confidence and reduce stress. As a parent, patience and understanding are essential as you navigate this journey together.
