Busy Moms, You Matter Too: Simple Ways to Prioritize Yourself Every Day

You wake up already behind. The alarm went off late, someone forgot to pack their lunch, and somehow, there’s a stain on your shirt before you’ve even had coffee. The day rushes forward—drop-offs, emails, errands, work, dinner, bedtime routines. You keep moving, handling it all because that’s just what you do.

But somewhere in the middle of all this, you realize it’s been days—maybe weeks—since you’ve done anything just for yourself. Trust me I am guilty. You’re always prioritizing everyone else, but when was the last time you paused, even for five minutes, to do something that makes you feel like you?

It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. It’s not about carving out hours of free time—because we both know that’s a fantasy. It’s about small moments: drinking your coffee while it’s still hot, listening to your favorite song in the car, taking five deep breaths before jumping into the next thing. I am having my Jesus time. Literally, having a full conversation and devotion.

Here are four simple ways moms can prioritize self-care while juggling daily responsibilities.

1. Start Small with Intentional Moments– Enjoy your coffee while it’s still hot, take a deep breath before diving into the next task, or listen to your favorite song while driving. Small moments add up.

2. Schedule “Me Time” Like an Appointment – Put a short self-care break on your calendar, just like you do for work meetings and kids’ activities. Even 10 minutes of uninterrupted time can make a difference.

3. Reconnect with What Brings You Joy – Whether it’s painting, reading, gardening, or simply going for a walk, find something that makes you feel like you again. It doesn’t have to be perfect—just consistent.

4. Say Yes to Help, Say No to Overload – You don’t have to do everything yourself. Delegate where possible, and don’t be afraid to say no to commitments that drain your energy. Protect your time and peace.

Which of these you feel that you can try today?

Because in all the chaos, you matter too.

... Read moreOh mama, if you're reading this, chances are you're feeling that familiar tug-of-war: the endless demands of motherhood versus that tiny whisper inside reminding you that you matter too. Trust me, I’ve been there, staring at "the never-ending to-do list" feeling completely depleted. It’s so easy to get caught up "between work, kids, and" everything else, that you suddenly realize, "when was the last time you took a moment for You?" It’s a common struggle, but here’s the beautiful truth: prioritizing self-care isn't selfish; it's absolutely essential for everyone in your family. Think of it like this: you can't pour from an empty cup, right? When you take a little time to replenish yourself, you show up as a more patient, joyful, and energized parent. Building on those fantastic tips, let me share a few more ways I've learned to sprinkle self-care into my ridiculously busy days: 1. Micro-Moments are Mighty: We often think self-care needs to be a spa day or a weekend getaway. Nope! It's those tiny, intentional pockets. Could you listen to a favorite podcast while folding laundry? Or do a quick 5-minute stretch routine before anyone else wakes up? Even stepping outside for two minutes to feel the sun on your face or take five deep, cleansing breaths can shift your entire mood. I've found that even just drinking a full glass of water mindfully can be a mini-reset. 2. Diversify Your Self-Care Menu: Just like our kids need a balanced diet, we need a balanced self-care menu. Is your soul craving quiet? Maybe a few minutes with a book or a journal. Is your body tired? A warm bath with Epsom salts or a quick walk around the block can work wonders. Feeling overwhelmed mentally? Try a short guided meditation app or even just tidying one small area of your home to create a sense of control. Sometimes, self-care is simply saying 'no' to one more commitment that drains you. 3. Tackle the Guilt Monster: Let's be real, mom guilt is a powerful force. It whispers that taking time for yourself means you’re neglecting your family. But flip that script! When you prioritize your well-being, you're modeling a healthy lifestyle for your children. You're teaching them that self-respect and personal boundaries are important. It’s an investment in your mental health, which ultimately benefits them too. 4. Lean on Your Village: Remember that tip about saying yes to help? This is HUGE. Can your partner take the kids for an hour so you can have uninterrupted quiet? Can you swap childcare with a friend? Even asking a grandparent to watch them for a specific block of time so you can get a haircut or just sit in silence. Don't underestimate the power of your community. Sometimes, it's not about doing less, but allowing others to step in. Finding your self-care rhythm is a journey, not a destination. It’s about experimenting, being kind to yourself on the days you miss it, and celebrating every small win. You are worth that moment for *you*.
