A day as a plant mom

Being a plant mom is not easy, but not difficult neither. Sometimes it seems a little technical. But overall, it's a natural thing. I remember growing up, my mom had all these plants and never, although I may have missed it, but I don't remember seeing her do as much as we're supposed to do with the plants now, but it's okay. Her plants grew, grew and grew effortlessly. I know she did plant food and rainwater. She sat them outside and gave them sunlight. Same things you do with your kids. However, nowadays, we have to do a lot. And as I'm sitting here, loving on my plants, I had to repot 2 of them. Just because there were some things going on with it. I have to get into the recording thing, y'all. It seems a bit too technical for me. I just don't know how to do that and focus on what I'm doing with my plants, but nonetheless. I had to repot one of the orchid because... Root Rot. I guess the soil was too compact. So repotted one of the twins. I'm gonna wait for her to thrive, and then I have a silver streak. Chat GPT can't give me the exact name of it. So I called Sylvia. She needed to be repotted, because I purchased them from Sam, so I never changed anything from the store and she started to droop a little bit. So, had to repot her; clean her off and give her water. Now I'm waiting to see if she plumps up, like Chat said. Overall, all my plants are looking really nice. I think I'm gonna have to do something to my 1st Dracenia. My mom calls them the cornstalks. Well, she replanted her in an extra large pot, and she did not do well. So I repotted her in a smaller, decent sized pot. But she seems to be leaning, so I need to adjust her soil. Other than that, everything is good.

... Read moreBeing a plant mom is a rewarding yet sometimes challenging experience, especially when it comes to repotting and managing plant health issues like root rot. Root rot typically occurs when the soil retains too much moisture or becomes compacted, depriving roots of oxygen. To prevent this, it’s essential to use well-draining soil and pots with drainage holes. When repotting orchids or other sensitive plants, removing damaged roots and using fresh orchid-specific potting mix can help the plant recover and thrive. Orchids, for example, prefer a specific bark-based medium rather than regular soil. Rehydrating and gently cleaning the plant leaves can also promote vigor. Balancing light, water, and air circulation is critical for plant wellbeing. Placing plants outside for fresh air and seasonal rainwater, similar to natural conditions, supports growth. However, indoor plants often require more attentive watering schedules and humidity control. Plants like Dracaenas (sometimes called cornstalks) need an appropriately sized pot, good soil aeration, and occasional repositioning to prevent leaning. If a plant begins to droop or lean, it might signal root constraints or soil imbalance. Adjusting soil gently and repotting into a suitably sized container often helps. Along with technical care, being a plant mom is about forming a connection with your plants — observing subtle changes, adjusting care routines, and sharing progress. Despite the occasional technical learning curve, the natural reward is watching your plants grow vibrant and healthy, adding life to your home or garden. For anyone new to plant care, starting with a few low-maintenance plants and gradually learning about their specific needs can ease the journey. There are numerous online communities and resources where plant enthusiasts exchange tips, troubleshoot issues, and celebrate successes, making plant motherhood both a practical and joyful experience.

Yasss! I just repotted the other twin yesterday. She was not as bad as the one pictured. Her roots were still very beautiful. But yes! Now in the process of getting rid of these tiny black flies…. Real Pesty

One of the easiest ways to keep houseplants thriving is by keeping their leaves clean. It sounds simple, but it makes a huge difference. When leaves get dusty, they can’t soak in sunlight as well, which slows down photosynthesis aka how they make food. Dust and buildup can also clog the pores on th
