✨Mini guide to booking your China High-speed Rail tickets on Railway12306 app✨

Here’s a guide on booking booking your China High-speed Rail tickets on Railway12306 app - eng version. I like to use this app as this is the official app for booking and don’t really like to use third party apps.

Note that the eng version has limitations like not being able to choose your seats/ seeing which stations are between your departure and arrival stations. I like to switch to the chinese version after booking so i can see these information. The chinese version also allows me to see which gate to enter for my train so I don’t have to search on the screens at the station.

Before I forget - there will be NO confirmation email upon purchase of your tickets so don’t worry if you did not receive anything in your mail. All bookings reflected in app only.

Train tickets can be booked 14 days in advance so do look out to “camp” for the tickets especially if you are travelling on a china public holiday, if you don’t book early be prepared to stand hohoho.

Tried to list down whatever I can remember in this guide. Do drop any other questions in the comments and I will try my best to help😆

... Read moreWhen booking your China high-speed rail tickets through the Railway12306 app, I found a few additional tips really helped me enjoy a smoother travel experience. While the English version is great for straightforward booking, it doesn’t allow seat selection or show all intermediate stations, so I switch to the Chinese version afterward to get detailed info like gates and stops, which helped me avoid confusion at busy stations. A handy strategy is to search for the train layouts online before confirming your booking. This way, you can try re-entering the app multiple times until you snag a seat assignment that suits you, especially if you travel with luggage or prefer quiet cabins. I usually opt for first-class seats as they offer more space and a peaceful environment without standing passengers. Another personal tip: arrive at the station at least 45 minutes early. The app allows one free ticket change, so if you arrive early and find an earlier train, you can switch and get refunded the difference. This flexibility was a lifesaver during busy travel days. For payments, linking your international bank cards with WeChat Pay or Alipay via the YouTrip card made transactions seamless. And don’t worry about confirmation emails—tickets show up directly in your app. Lastly, be prepared for passport checks at two points when entering the station. Look for manual counters with staff for smooth scanning and security checks. These insider tips helped me feel confident navigating China’s high-speed rail system, and I hope they make your trip just as enjoyable!

🚄 Train ride with food delivery?!
On China’s high-speed rail, just scan the seat QR via WeChat or Alipay, pick your meal, and order before each station’s cut-off. Your food gets loaded at the stop, then delivered to your seat after departure. KFC still warm and crispy. Proper meal for a 5-hour ride. Don’t say BOJIO. #t

Don‘t fly inside China. Take the train. 🚄
Anywhere within 1,500 km is faster by high-speed rail than by plane. The math is simple: a domestic flight is 1 hr in the air, but you also burn 90 min at the airport, 45 min in security, 30 min taxiing, 30 min waiting for a bag, and 60 min into the city center. The train is 5 hr to your destinatio

everything u must know about china apps & vpn tip!
• Amap/高德地图 (p.2) 5/5 ⭐️ super useful for navigation and really precise timings! tells you exactly when the train arrives and transit timing if you’re switching lines; overall a reliable and intuitive interface and i daresay it’s better than google maps so you won’t be missing out on much hahaha
