My Favorite Halloween Movies

Building the perfect Halloween movie lineup for a cozy night in is one of my favorite parts of spooky season! Beyond the fantastic picks I already shared, creating a true 'horror movies collage' (even if it's more spooky than outright terrifying!) is all about variety and atmosphere. Thinking about the cover image for my post, with hands emerging from dark, dry grass, it really sets a mood – that eerie, mysterious vibe is what I aim for in my movie marathon too! When I'm curating my list, I love to think about what kind of visual journey I want to go on. For instance, the haunting yet beautiful imagery of Jack Skellington on his spiral hill in Nightmare Before Christmas is iconic, but maybe I want to follow that with something a bit more vibrant, like the mischievous energy of Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice. Or transition from the romantic melancholy of Victor and Emily from Corpse Bride to the whimsical magic of the Halloweentown crew, with that older witch flying on her broomstick over the town. To truly make it a ‘collage’ of experiences, I often mix animated gems with live-action classics. It’s a classic for a reason and definitely adds a different flavor to a spooky movie night. ParaNorman: If you loved the stop-motion artistry of Coraline (where Coraline stands in front of that Victorian house), you’ll appreciate this one. It’s got a great message, spooky elements, and brilliant animation. Practical Magic: For a dash of witchy romance and sisterly bonds, this one is a bit softer but still holds that magical Halloween feel. Making your movie night special isn't just about the films, though! It's about the whole experience. I love to grab some themed snacks – think pumpkin-shaped cookies, 'monster eye' treats, or even just some classic popcorn. Dimming the lights, lighting a few autumn-scented candles, and snuggling up under a cozy blanket truly enhances the magic. Sometimes I even try to match the decor to the movies, like putting out a few fairy lights if I'm watching something whimsical like Twitches with its two young women dressed in red and orange.
