Jesus had foretold his crucifixion and resurrection. After his crucifixion, the disciples went into hiding, mourning Jesus's death and afraid of the Jewish leadership. The women who went to the tomb on the morning after the Sabbath did not expect to find what they did.
Neither had the eleven apostles remaining believed Jesus when he said he would rise again.
In Luke 24:5, the angels ask a question:
And as they were afraid and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
They go on to tell them:
He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
[7]Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. Luke 24:6-7
While the details may differ, all the gospels agree: he arose, just as he said he would! He ever lives and can bring new life to you. Do not seek the living amongst the dead. Go to him, who is the resurrection, and the life!
