Habitat and Hunting Style: Open Plains vs. Adaptable Ambush Their preferred environments and hunting methods also differ significantly. Cheetahs are typically found in open grasslands and savannas, where their speed can be put to good use chasing down prey during the day. They are diurnal hunters. Leopards are incredibly adaptable and can be found in a wide variety of habitats, from forests and mountains to grasslands and even semi-desert areas. They are primarily nocturnal hunters, relying on stealth and ambush. They are also known for their incredible climbing abilities, often dragging their kills up into trees to keep them safe from other predators. 5. Tails and Vocalizations: Rudders vs. Roars Even their tails and sounds can give them away! A cheetah's tail is long, flat, and acts like a rudder, helping them balance and steer during high-speed chases. A leopard's tail, while also long, is generally rounder and not flattened. When it comes to vocalizations, cheetahs don't roar; they purr, chirp, growl, and hiss. Leopards, being true 'big cats,' are capable of roaring, along with growls and hisses. So there you have it!
