How I lost 50 lbs

Building a Healthier Life & Sustain It

*This is not a quick fix*

this took me 2 years to lose the 50 lbs & lots of hard work.

1. Self Love/Acceptance: 💗

I dealt with a lot of body confidence issues and decided I was truly going to get on good terms with my body. I did this by looking at my self in the mirror and appreciating it for all it can do and well as pose in ways that make me feel good. Slowly, I began to like what I saw in the mirror. By now longer hating my body, I was able to work with it as a team.

2. Eating Habits: 🍽️

I had to acknowledge I had some unhealthy habits of eating sugary foods to cope with big emotions I didn’t want to deal with as well as eating just because I was bored. I worked on these by asking myself if I was trying to cope, bored, or truly hungry. In the case of me being bored or needing to cope, I would drink a fun sugar free drink instead. That way I still had the hand to mouth habit I craved as well.

3. Therapy: 🧘‍♀️

Next I went to therapy to work on learning healthy coping skills and work through my stressors. Thus reducing my cortisol and strain on eating to cope. I can’t stress enough how critical this was to my weight loss. Your mindset is everything.

4. Pay attention to your nutrition: 🥦

I happened to go vegetarian during this time but I don’t believe that change caused me to lose weight, but it caused me to pay attention to my nutrition for the first time. I started paying more attention to what made my body feel good and what nutrients do I need to be giving it to continue to do the things I love. I began to eat more whole foods, more home cooked meals, and over all much more balanced nutrition. I did not cut out my sweet treat as that would not be sustainable for me. Instead I allowed myself one serving after finishing my dinner.

5. Live an Active Lifestyle: 👟

Committing to going to the gym, also not sustainable for me. Committing to living an active lifestyle, doable! I do this by having a job that keeps me lifting and moving all day, engage in activity hobbies like line dancing or roller blading, and chose to walk whenever I can! Small choices that help me stay fit that I can fit into my daily life is a much more realistic standard for me.

My entire weight loss journey was about a lifestyle change but one with grace for myself. I knew if I help felt like I failed, I would give up. So I made small, sustainable changes in my life that allowed for me to maintain a healthy headspace and continue on with my progress. I wasn’t watching the number on the scale but focusing on how I looked and how I felt to give me feedback. Before I knew it, I was happier and healthier than ever in just 2 years! ✨

... Read moreLosing 50 pounds is not about quick fixes but about embracing a long-term lifestyle change, as shared in this inspiring personal journey. One crucial aspect of sustainable weight loss is cultivating self-love and acceptance. Rather than setting unrealistic expectations, treating your body with kindness and appreciating its capabilities can foster a positive mindset essential for success. Paying close attention to eating habits is another pillar of lasting weight management. Identifying emotional triggers for eating, such as boredom or stress, and replacing sugary snacks with healthier alternatives or sugar-free drinks can break unhealthy cycles. Moreover, nutrition awareness goes beyond weight loss—it involves choosing whole foods and balanced meals that nourish your body. Allowing occasional treats, like one serving after dinner, makes the approach sustainable without feelings of deprivation. An often overlooked but critical factor is addressing mental health through therapy or stress management techniques. Lowering cortisol levels and developing healthy coping mechanisms reduce emotional eating tendencies, reinforcing physical efforts. Living actively doesn’t necessarily require gym commitments; incorporating movement into daily routines—walking, job-related physical activity, or fun hobbies like line dancing or rollerblading—adds up and supports fitness goals. This realistic mindset emphasizes consistency over intensity. Keeping track of progress by how you feel and look, rather than obsessively watching the scale, helps cultivate patience and self-compassion. Remember, a two-year timeline for a 50-pound loss illustrates steady, healthy change. By integrating these habits and perspectives, anyone can transform their health in a way that lasts.
