have you seen this plant?

it's my newest buy so it's in quarantine with my other new plants but I absolutely love it. 🥰

It's called an alocasia stingray because its leafs resemble stingrays 😍 it'll probably get to 3-5 ft tall since I'm keeping it as a houseplant but they can get up to 15 ft tall when in the right environment outdoors 😮

I ordered it from a seller on Etsy but other than that I've not seen it in stores anywhere.

It's also the plant thats scared me the most because it got lost in the mail for about 2 weeks 🙃 luckily the recipient was three roads down and kind enough to give it to me. As if that wasn't awesome enough she only lost one leaf! 🙌🏻

... Read moreSo, you've seen the buzz about the Alocasia Stingray and are curious about this truly unique plant? I totally get it – my newest buy has me completely captivated! After sharing its wild journey to my home, I wanted to dive deeper into what makes this plant so special and how to keep it thriving. If you're wondering about its distinctive look, care, or where to find one, you're in the right place. Let's talk about that incredible appearance first. As the name suggests, the Alocasia Stingray boasts vibrant, green leaves that are perfectly shaped like a stingray, complete with a long, pointed tail. The stems themselves are often patterned, adding another layer of visual interest. Mine looks absolutely stunning by a window, where the light hits those distinctive leaf veins, making them truly pop. It's truly a statement houseplant! Caring for your Alocasia Stingray might seem daunting, but with a few tips, you'll have it flourishing. From my experience (and after the scare when mine got lost in the mail for two weeks!), I've learned these plants are resilient, but consistent care is key. For watering, I've found it thrives when the top inch or two of soil dries out between waterings – never let it sit in soggy soil, as that's a quick way to root rot. As for light love, place your Alocasia Stingray in a spot with bright, indirect light. Mine loves its perch near a window, but direct, harsh sun can scorch those gorgeous leaves. Remember, it's a tropical plant, so humidity is crucial! I mist mine occasionally or keep it near a humidifier to keep it happy. A well-draining, airy potting mix in a decorative pot with drainage holes is also vital for its overall health. While mine is currently a houseplant, it's amazing to think they can reach 3-5 feet indoors and a whopping 15 feet in the right outdoor environment, truly reflecting their origins in the wild. If you're on the hunt for your own Alocasia Stingray, I know the struggle! While I ordered mine from a seller on Etsy, I haven't seen them readily available in most big box stores. Don't give up though! Check local, specialty nurseries or dedicated online plant retailers. Sometimes, you might hear this plant associated with "Thai exotic greenery," which hints at its Southeast Asian origins and the regions where many unique Alocasia varieties are cultivated. Just be sure to find a reputable seller who ensures safe shipping. Finally, a quick clarification: if you've heard whispers of a "Philodendron Stingray," it's worth noting that the plant with these iconic ray-shaped leaves and distinctive patterned stems is truly an Alocasia Stingray. They belong to different plant genera, so you're looking for an Alocasia to get that unique stingray effect! This plant truly adds an exotic and vibrant touch to any collection, and with a little attention to its specific needs, your Alocasia Stingray will flourish and become a captivating centerpiece in your home.
