How to Grow 4C Hair

Before I loc’d my hair I did a big chop back in May 2024. I wanted to grow my hair out and wear it naturally. Here are some tips on how i grow my hair:

-water it daily 🪴

- oil it as needed 🌻

-I wash a max of twice a month

I did these tips before I loc’d it and currently now. I try to avoid too many products in my hair. I sometimes sleep with a bonnet and sometimes I don’t-I love to promote frizzness so the next time I do a retwist, my individual locs are thicker than what I started with.

I am loving my journey! If you get to a point where you don’t know what to do with your hair next, I kindly suggest locing it. I love it here!😌🌻

... Read moreSince sharing my initial tips, I’ve had so many of you ask for more details on exactly how I managed to see such incredible growth and length retention with my 4C hair. It's truly a journey of learning what works best for your unique curls, but here are some deeper dives into my routine and a few extra things I’ve picked up along the way that have made a huge difference for me. Hydration is Key: When I say 'water daily,' I mean a light spritz, not drenching! I found that using a mix of distilled water and a few drops of Rosemary Water in a spray bottle was a game-changer. Rosemary is known for stimulating the scalp, and I genuinely believe it contributed to my hair feeling stronger and growing faster. My 4C hair just drinks it up, staying supple and less prone to breakage. Sealing in Moisture: After my daily spritz, I always follow up with a good oil. Jamaican Black Castor Oil became my holy grail. It’s thick, so a little goes a long way, especially for sealing in that moisture. I focus on my ends, which are the oldest part of the hair and most susceptible to damage. This step is crucial for length retention; when your ends are moisturized, they don't break off as easily, allowing your hair to actually keep the length it grows. Wash Day Rituals: Washing only twice a month might sound infrequent, but for my 4C hair, it's perfect. Over-washing can strip natural oils. On wash day, I always start with a gentle pre-poo. Then, for cleansing, I look for sulfate-free shampoos. And for conditioning? I've been loving how nourishing Blue Magic Conditioner Hair Dress feels. It's a classic for a reason! I let my conditioner sit for at least 15-20 minutes, sometimes with a shower cap for extra penetration. Beyond the Basics: Retention Secrets: While my main focus was on basic care, I quickly learned that protective styling is also a huge ally for length retention. Simple twists, braids, or even just a high bun can significantly reduce manipulation and friction. And yes, sleeping with a silk or satin bonnet (or on a pillowcase!) isn't just for looks; it prevents moisture loss and tangles that lead to breakage. For those asking about the 'maximum hydration method,' while I don't follow it strictly, my routine incorporates many of its core principles: consistent moisture, gentle cleansing, and sealing. It’s all about creating an optimal environment for your hair to thrive without drying out. Finally, don't underestimate your diet! Eating well and staying hydrated internally definitely reflects in your hair's health and growth. It's a holistic approach, and I truly believe every little bit helps. This journey is about patience and consistency, but seeing those inches add up is incredibly rewarding!
