TRAVEL WITH US!!!🚛🛣️✨

... Read moreWow, it still feels surreal that we've officially embarked on our trucking travel journey! After completing our intensive program at a place like Covenant Training Center, the open road feels like both a massive adventure and a significant responsibility. Before starting, I always romanticized the idea of seeing the country, but the reality of trucking travel is so much more nuanced. One of the biggest eye-openers for me has been understanding the difference between a vacation and life as an OTR trucker. On vacation, you plan your stops, explore attractions, and relax. As a new trucker, your travel is purposeful. It’s about getting goods from point A to point B safely and efficiently. That being said, there are still incredible moments of discovery. I’ve already glimpsed stunning sunrises over mountains and driven through landscapes I never knew existed, all from the driver's seat of our rig. It's truly a unique "TRUCKER EDITION" of travel. Learning to live on the road has been a huge adjustment. During training, you learn the mechanics, the regulations, and how to handle the truck. But they don't always prepare you for the day-to-day logistics of living in a confined space for weeks on end. We're learning to become masters of organization, figuring out how to maximize our small living area for cooking, sleeping, and relaxation. It's a constant puzzle! Finding good, healthy food options can be a challenge, so we've started packing more non-perishable staples and getting creative with truck stop meals. Having a small cooler and a portable stove has been a game-changer for budgeting and health. Another aspect of trucking travel no one really talks about is the mental game. There's a certain solitude that comes with long stretches on the highway. While I love the quiet time to think, staying connected with family and friends becomes even more important. Video calls from a truck stop parking lot are now a regular part of my routine! We're also learning to manage our time effectively, balancing driving hours with essential breaks, maintenance checks, and personal time. It’s not just about driving; it’s about managing a mobile lifestyle. We've found that having a routine, even a flexible one, helps immensely. Knowing when to look for parking for the night, planning out our meals, and scheduling calls keeps us grounded. For anyone considering a trucking career, especially the OTR lifestyle, my advice is to embrace the travel, but understand it's a job first. The views are incredible, and the independence is empowering, but it requires discipline, adaptability, and a strong sense of self-reliance. The training, like what we received at Covenant Training Center, gives you the foundational skills, but the real learning happens out here, mile by mile. Every day is a new lesson in navigating not just the roads, but also the challenges and rewards of this incredible journey. We're excited for all the places our "trucking travel" will take us, and we look forward to sharing more of our experiences on this Lemon8 diary!
