Have you tried any of these?
Okay, so you guys know how much I love exploring new places, and Japan absolutely blew me away with its incredible food scene! I've been getting so many questions about what I ate, so I decided to spill the tea on my absolute must-try dishes and give you my honest ratings. Get ready for some serious cravings! First up, let's talk Takoyaki. Oh my goodness, these savory octopus balls are a street food dream! I tried them from a tiny stall in Osaka, and the experience was just as good as the taste. Crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, with a tender piece of octopus, topped with a generous drizzle of takoyaki sauce, mayo, and bonito flakes. It's a flavor explosion! My rating? A solid 9/10 – I could eat these all day, every day. Next, the adorable and chewy Dango. I found these sweet rice dumplings on a stick near a temple, and they were the perfect little pick-me-up. Mine were coated in a sweet soy glaze, giving them a delightful balance of sweet and slightly savory. The texture is super unique, definitely something to try. I'd give them a 7.5/10 for their simplicity and comforting taste. Of course, I had to indulge in some classic Shrimp Tempura! I had a set lunch that included beautifully fried tempura, and the shrimp was so fresh and perfectly crispy without being greasy. The light batter and juicy shrimp, dipped in a dashi-based sauce, was just divine. It felt like a warm hug. This gets an 8.5/10 from me – a timeless classic done right. Now, for something a bit more modern and trendy: the Coin Cheese Pull. I saw this everywhere on social media and had to try it! It’s basically a fried pastry filled with mozzarella cheese, shaped like a coin. When you pull it apart, you get that satisfying, stretchy cheese pull. It’s more about the fun experience than a complex flavor, but it was surprisingly tasty with a slight sweetness to the dough. A fun 7/10 for the novelty and Instagram-worthiness! No trip to Japan is complete without trying Uncle Rikuro's cheesecake. This fluffy, jiggly cheesecake from Osaka is legendary, and for good reason! It’s incredibly light, airy, and has a delicate sweetness with a hint of cheese. It’s unlike any cheesecake I've ever had – almost like a soufflé. It melts in your mouth! I bought a whole one and devoured it way too quickly. A definite 9.5/10, an absolute must-try! And finally, the obvious one: Sushi (DUH!). I mean, you can't go to Japan and not have sushi. I had some amazing conveyor belt sushi that was so fresh and affordable, as well as a more upscale omakase experience. The quality of the fish is just unparalleled. Every piece was a work of art, bursting with flavor. From fatty tuna (otoro) to sweet scallop, it was all incredible. Sushi in Japan is a spiritual experience, truly. A solid 10/10, no question about it! It completely ruined all other sushi for me, in the best way possible. Seriously, if you're planning a trip to Japan, make sure these are on your food list. You won't regret it!
