Never mind, I’m not that tired 😭

5/9 Edited to

... Read moreVisiting Cusco is a dream for many travelers, but the high altitude can really take a toll on your body, as many firsthand experiences reveal. When you're in a place like Cusco, sitting at over 3,400 meters (about 11,200 feet) above sea level, it’s common to feel breathless, fatigued, and even have headaches. I remember feeling surprisingly tired even though I was eager to explore every corner. One key thing I learned is to listen carefully to your body. It’s tempting to push through the tiredness because you don’t want to miss out on any experiences, but it’s important to pace yourself. Staying hydrated is essential—coca tea is a traditional remedy locals swear by to help with altitude symptoms. Sipping it slowly throughout the day may ease the discomfort. Another helpful tip is to avoid alcohol and excessive physical exertion for the first 24 to 48 hours after arrival. This allows your body to begin adjusting to the thinner air. Light meals and plenty of rest made a noticeable difference in my ability to enjoy activities without feeling completely drained. When you feel like the altitude is ‘whooping your butt,’ remember why you came—Cusco’s breathtaking history, culture, and landscapes are definitely worth the challenge. Sometimes just reminding yourself how much effort and money went into making this trip possible can motivate you to take an extra moment before pushing forward. If symptoms persist or worsen, it's best to consult a healthcare provider as altitude sickness can be serious. Overall, embracing the altitude with patience and preparedness can turn a potentially exhausting experience into a memorable adventure.
