MABEL

Meet Mabel!

Mabel is a 4 month old female Standard Poodle mix puppy (we were told she is purebred however we have no proof of that, and merle is not naturally occurring in Poodles).

She is sister to Ruby (who is already in her new home and thriving!) but to recap, we took them in back in January. They were emaciated, dirty, and had not received any vet care. Mabel has spent her time with us getting the proper vet care, grooming, and training.

Mabel would be a fantastic beginners sport dog. We also think she shows potential to be a great service dog prospect. She is very handler-oriented, confident, intelligent, and overall has a wonderful temperament. We could also see therapy dog work as another potential route for her. Above all else, she will be a fantastic companion and will be a great dog in even a pet home. She is very, very sweet and enjoys cuddling.

Grooming is going to be a big part of her life and she is very compliant for grooming. She has been worked on my grooming table with blow drier, nail clippers, nail dremel, and clippers. She has had her face and paws shaved and does very well. She will need grooming every 6-8 weeks.

She is mostly crate trained. She will run right in when you tell her to, and sleeps through the night in her crate. When she needs to go out to potty, she will cry to let you know. She is doing excellent with potty training. Mabel knows a place command and is working on heeling, sit, down, and stand. She is great with other dogs of all ages and sizes, great with kids, but has never met a cat.

She is fully vaccinated, has received her rabies shot, and is microchipped.

... Read moreWow, it’s been such a journey fostering our sweet Mabel! As you might know from her photos, she's a stunning brown and white merle Poodle mix puppy, and watching her grow from a timid, neglected rescue into the confident, playful girl she is today has been incredibly rewarding. When we took her and her sister in back in January, they were in pretty rough shape, but with proper vet care, good food, and lots of love, Mabel has absolutely blossomed. She truly embodies everything wonderful about rescue dogs. If you’re considering bringing a new furry family member into your home, especially a Poodle mix like Mabel, there are so many reasons to do it! Poodle mixes are renowned for their intelligence and trainability, which we've certainly seen in Mabel. She's so quick to pick up new commands like 'sit,' 'down,' and 'place,' and she's really excelling with her potty training and crate training – sleeping through the night is a huge plus! Their smarts also mean they thrive on mental stimulation, making them fantastic candidates for things like beginner sport dog activities or even as service or therapy dog prospects, which we believe Mabel has the potential for. It's just amazing how handler-oriented she is; she loves to please. One thing about Poodle mixes, especially with a beautiful merle coat like Mabel's, is that they do require regular grooming. I've been so impressed with how compliant Mabel is for her grooming sessions, whether it's the blow drier, nail dremel, or even getting her face and paws shaved. It’s a commitment, usually every 6-8 weeks, but it's totally worth it to keep them looking and feeling their best. When you adopt a rescue puppy, understanding these needs upfront is really important for setting both of you up for success. Bringing a rescue puppy home is such a special experience. It’s not just about giving them a safe place; it’s about watching them learn to trust and flourish. Mabel, for instance, is great with other dogs of all ages and sizes, and she adores kids – she's going to make an incredible companion for a family. Patience is key in those first few weeks as they adjust to their new environment and routines. Continuing positive reinforcement training helps build that bond and ensures they become well-behaved members of your household. And honestly, the snuggles you get from a sweet, cuddly girl like Mabel make all the effort worthwhile! She’s fully vaccinated and microchipped, ready for her next adventure. Adopting a rescue dog isn't just about saving one life; it opens up a space for another dog in need. It’s about unconditional love, loyalty, and the incredible joy they bring into our lives. Seeing Mabel transform has been a testament to the resilience of these animals and the power of a loving home. If you've been dreaming of a smart, sweet, and loyal companion, a Poodle mix rescue puppy like Mabel might just be your perfect match. There's truly nothing quite like the love of a rescue dog.
