VidCon
Spent 3 days last week with the family at VidCon. This is me and my son taking a moment after leaving one of the exhibits.
So many of you might be wondering, just like we were, about the famous VidCon meet and greets! When you're there with your family, especially with kids like my son who are excited to see their favorite online personalities, that's often a huge highlight. While our trip was more about soaking in the overall atmosphere and checking out cool exhibits like the one for 'Descendants: The Rise of Red' where we snapped that fun selfie, I definitely picked up some insights on how those coveted meet-ups usually work. From what I observed and heard from other attendees, getting into a meet and greet at VidCon can be a bit of an art and a science! First off, it’s rarely a free-for-all. Many of the most popular creators use a lottery system where you have to enter in advance or on the day itself through the VidCon app. It's crucial to check the schedule daily because things change fast! We saw lines forming super early for certain booths, even if it wasn't an official meet and greet, just for a chance to get close or grab some exclusive merch. My big tip for anyone hoping to snag a meet and greet opportunity would be to prioritize. You can't do everything at VidCon, and trying to chase every single creator will just lead to exhaustion. Pick one or two absolute must-sees for yourself or your kids. Then, dedicate your energy to following the specific instructions for those creators – whether it's entering a lottery, queuing up at a specific time, or looking for special panel Q&As where creators might do a quick photo op afterward. Another thing to remember is that not all 'meet and greets' are the same. Some creators might have official sessions, while others might just be walking the floor or doing unscheduled pop-ups. These impromptu moments are rare but can happen, so always keep an eye out (respectfully, of course!). We even saw some creators hosting smaller, ticketed events outside of the main VidCon schedule, which can be a more guaranteed way to get that personal interaction, albeit for an extra cost. Even if you don't get to personally meet every creator on your list, VidCon is still an incredible experience. The energy is infectious, and there are so many interactive booths and panels to enjoy. For us, discovering new content creators and getting immersed in the 'Descendants: The Rise of Red' world was just as memorable as any potential meet and greet could have been. It's all about enjoying the journey and making those family memories, which we definitely did!
