Protect Your Hands - UV Nail Hacks 💅🏾
Hi You Guys ! In this post I’m sharing with you a hack to protect your hands if / when you’re doing gel nails.
As we know , the UV light used to help seal the Gel Nail Polish has the potential to really damage your skin cells over the years which can cause conditions later down the line in life if you use it on a consistent basis.
So, what I like to use is Petroleum Jelly over my hands to protect against the UV Light.
What I Like To Do:
•Step 1: Apply Coconut Oil or All Natural Oil
•Step 2: Apply The Petroleum Jelly / Vaseline
•Step 3: Begin Your Nail Process
🌟Skincare Tips: This will help to keep your hands protected and safe in the long run. Because with good health gives good beauty.
Okay, so you've heard my super easy hack for protecting your hands during your gel nail sessions, but let's dive a little deeper into why this matters and some extra tips I've picked up along the way! I used to just pop my hands under the UV lamp without a second thought, but once I learned about the potential long-term effects, I knew I needed a routine. Why UV Protection is a Must-Do for Gel Nails When we talk about UV light from nail lamps, it's not just about immediate redness. Over time, consistent exposure can contribute to premature skin aging, like fine lines and sunspots on your hands. While newer LED lamps are often touted as 'safer,' they still emit UV-A rays, which are known to penetrate deeply and can cause damage. Personally, I'd rather be safe than sorry, especially since my hands are always on display! This is why I swear by my two-step protection method. My Go-To Products & Why They Work You saw I mentioned Coconut Oil. I've found that using a high-quality, pure option like Garden of Life Raw Extra Virgin Coconut Oil makes a huge difference. It's not just a moisturizer; it helps create a natural barrier on your skin and is packed with antioxidants. I apply a good amount, gently massaging it into my hands and cuticles. It feels nourishing and gets my skin ready for the next step. Then comes the equate baby Petroleum Jelly. This stuff is a superhero! It forms an occlusive barrier, meaning it physically blocks the UV rays from reaching your skin effectively. I slather a generous layer over the coconut oil, making sure to cover all exposed skin, especially around my nails and knuckles. The 'baby' version is often fragrance-free and gentler, which I appreciate. This combination creates a powerful shield against the light from my UV LED Nail Lamp. Beyond My Two-Step Hack: Other Ways I Keep My Hands Safe While my oil and jelly hack is my favorite, I also want to share other things I consider to keep my hands in top shape: UV Protection Gloves: For those days I’m feeling extra cautious or if I’m at a salon, I sometimes bring my own UV protection gloves. They're fingerless gloves designed specifically to block UV rays, leaving just your nails exposed. They're a really convenient option if you don't want to deal with creams. Sunscreen: Some people use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen on their hands before gel manicures. I've tried it, but I find it can be a bit messy and sometimes interferes with the nail process if it gets on the nail bed. Plus, you need to apply it about 20 minutes before exposure for it to be fully effective. My hack feels simpler and more reliable for me personally. Mindful Curing Times: I always make sure to stick to the recommended curing times for my gel polish and lamp. Over-curing doesn't make your polish last longer; it just exposes your skin to more UV light unnecessarily. My UV LED Nail Lamp has different time settings, and I always pick the shortest effective one. A Quick Note on Nail Health (Even for 'Broken Nails') While these tips are mainly for UV protection, taking care of your nails generally goes hand-in-hand. If you're concerned about a 'broken nail' or just general weakness, keeping your cuticles and nails well-moisturized, like with the coconut oil, can make a huge difference. Healthy nails are stronger and less prone to breakage. So, even if you don't have a broken nail, regularly moisturizing your hands after your manicure is a great habit to get into. By combining these practices, I feel confident enjoying my beautiful gel nails without compromising the health of my hands. It's all about finding what works best for you and staying informed!
