Fibroid Removal

I am someone who has never had to have a surgery in my life, so this was the last thing on my bingo card this year. 🙂‍↕️

From multiple doctor appointments and people telling me I just had adenomyosis, so finally finding a gynecologist to take me seriously, order CT and MRI scans, to finally figuring out it was one singular fibroid growing for exactly a year in my stomach.

The surgery was called an open abdominal myomectomy. Because of the size of my fibroid, I was not able to do a laparoscopic surgery and had to opt for a more invasive procedure. It was as intense as a c-section and the recovery process is the same. A 5 inch incision that will heal in 4-6 weeks externally, and my uterus taking around 6-8 weeks or between 3-6 months.

My fibroid was 14cm x 13cm in size, being equivalent to the size of a very large mango. It weighed 5+ lbs and boy does it feel good to have that out of me.

Thankfully I am still recovering and getting better every day. I had to have assistance with standing and sitting the first week, while still having to have my husband’s help with getting out of bed two weeks in. The recovery is slow, but I’m thankful I had a great groups of doctors and people around me to make this process easier. 🫶🏼
