... Read moreOh my gosh, you guys, if you've never been to an Oddities & Curiosities Expo, you are seriously missing out! My recent haul was just the tip of the iceberg of what these incredible events offer. I wanted to share a bit more about my experience and why I absolutely adore going to these expos. First off, walking into an Oddities & Curiosities Expo is like stepping into another dimension. The atmosphere is just electric – a perfect blend of spooky, fascinating, and wonderfully weird. You'll find everything from taxidermy and preserved specimens (ethically sourced, of course!) to antique medical instruments, unique handcrafted jewelry, dark art, and so much more. It's truly a treasure trove for anyone who loves the macabre, the unusual, or just has an appreciation for history and unique craftsmanship. When I plan my visits, I always go in with an open mind, but I also keep an eye out for specific things. For this particular haul, I was hoping to find some interesting insect specimens for my display cabinet, and maybe a cool piece of dark academia-inspired art. One of my favorite finds this time was a stunning framed butterfly collection – the colors are just mesmerizing! I also snagged a vintage anatomy print that I've been eyeing for ages. It's all about finding those unique pieces that speak to you. My biggest tip for anyone attending is to wear comfortable shoes, because you'll want to explore every single booth! Also, don't be afraid to chat with the vendors. They are often the artists or collectors themselves, and their passion for their craft is infectious. I've learned so much just by asking about the stories behind their pieces. Sometimes, the conversation itself is as valuable as the treasures you find. Another thing I love about these expos is the community. You meet so many like-minded people who share your fascination with the unconventional. It’s a place where you can truly be yourself and embrace your unique interests without judgment. I've made some wonderful friends and connections just by striking up conversations with fellow attendees about their finds. If you're thinking about starting your own collection of oddities, a good place to begin is by focusing on a specific theme. Do you love insects? Vintage medical tools? Spooky decor? Having a theme can help you narrow down your search and avoid getting overwhelmed by all the amazing things on display. And remember, collecting is all about what brings you joy and fascination. My "Oddities & Curiosities Expo haul" video gives you a glimpse into what I brought home, but trust me, the experience of being there is something else entirely. It's an event I look forward to every year, and I highly recommend checking one out if it comes to a city near you. Who knows what incredible, bizarre, and beautiful things you might discover? Happy hunting!
