Taking my Golden Retriever puppy for his very first walk on the trails was an unforgettable experience filled with excitement and learning. However, not all passersby stopped for belly rubs, which was a small disappointment from my pup's perspective. Belly rubs are a terrific way to build socialization and trust with both humans and dogs, so I always encourage others to share a gentle pet or two. I also learned that planning for rest stops is important. My puppy needed a quick sit break to catch his breath, reminding me to keep walks at a comfortable pace. Always bring water and perhaps some snacks, as positive reinforcement helps encourage good behavior and makes the experience enjoyable for your furry friend. Be patient, prepare for plenty of pauses, and relish in those sweet moments like belly rubs and new friendships formed along the way.
