I learned early on that my response times slowed down significantly, especially in the evenings. When people asked me why I wasn’t answering messages promptly, my go-to excuse became, “I was asleep.” It’s honest, relatable, and honestly, who wouldn’t need a lot of rest during pregnancy? Pregnancy fatigue is a real and powerful phenomenon caused by hormonal changes like increased progesterone, which naturally makes you feel sleepy. Plus, the physical demands of carrying a baby can be exhausting. I found that embracing rest instead of pushing myself helped me maintain better health and mood. Additionally, the late afternoon and evening hours can be a real challenge. Around 7:00 pm, as noted in those common pregnancy experiences, it’s quite easy to just doze off — something many expectant mothers can relate to. This honest acknowledgment helped me set realistic expectations with friends and family about my availability. If you’re pregnant and struggling with communication or energy, don’t feel guilty for needing rest or being slow to reply. Your well-being and the baby’s come first. Sharing your experience with others can help them understand your situation and reduce pressure to always be “on.” After all, self-care during pregnancy is key, and every excuse to rest is a good excuse!
