How I Study Korean
Hi all! Today I’m talking about some of my preferred methods on studying Korean. I’m in my 6th year of learning Korean and here are a few of the things that have helped me get this far.
1. Lingo Deer
For me this was basically a one stop shop. Not only does it explain grammar rules and teach the alphabet, it also has short stories that you can read and re-record with your voice. There is a free version but I decided to pay for the lifetime subscription and unlocked all of the languages Lingodeer has to offer.
2. VIKI &NETFLIX
These two streaming apps have been great for listening and if you use Chrome or Firefox you can add an extension that gives you another set of subtitles!
3. KOREAN MADE SIMPLE
My Korean teacher introduced me to these books and they have been so helpful during my years in learning the language. They have so much grammar and work activities that you can’t not learn by using these books.
4. SUPPLEMENTAL LEARNING
I have a journal I usually write a few random thoughts in Korean in and it has definitely helped with writing and just overall thought process. These books are also super good especially if you love stories!
5. IMMERSION
I know this one may not be an option at the moment for all, but I’ve travelled and lived in Korea for a while and trust me there isn’t really much English anywhere which is good and it helps so much because I was forced to speak to get things done. Also the people I met were super helpful even when I made mistakes and they gently guided and helped me fix my pronunciation and grammar.

To further boost your language acquisition, try keeping a diary in Korean to practice writing and formulating sentences. Regular journaling helps internalize vocabulary and improve your thought process in the language. If possible, traveling to Korea or participating in language exchange programs can also be incredibly beneficial, allowing for real-world practice and cultural immersion. Engaging with native speakers will not only improve your speaking skills but also enhance your understanding of cultural nuances. By combining these methods, you can create a well-rounded learning approach that motivates and supports your progress in mastering Korean.
