Read moreReal talk about emotional healing often revolves around the idea of clearing our hearts from negative feelings like hate, yet it’s equally important not to carry around the painful reminders — the 'thorns' — that keep us stuck in resentment. From personal experience, I’ve found that forgiving does not mean forgetting or excusing harmful actions; instead, it means choosing to no longer let past hurts control my present emotions. Carrying hate can be exhausting, draining your energy and impacting your relationships. Yet, holding onto the thorn — those painful memories or triggers — can keep the wound fresh, making it harder to move forward. What really helped me was learning emotional boundaries: acknowledging the pain, allowing myself to feel it, but then choosing to let it go, so it doesn't poison my peace. Practices like journaling, meditation, and talking with trusted friends or counselors can facilitate this process. It’s about finding ways to express those feelings safely, understand their root causes, and then actively decide to release them. This balance of neither holding hate in your heart nor the thorn in your side ultimately nurtures emotional freedom. It’s a gradual journey, but with real talk and honest self-reflection, peace of mind is achievable.
