(free) self care for anxiety 🦋

let’s go back to basics for a minute. honestly, when you’re feeling stressed and anxious you don’t need a whole long list of self care things to do…. because that’s just going to make you more stressed and anxious.

you can take care of yourself right now, completely FREE and get you back to feeling your best 🦋

✍🏼 JOURNAL

get your anxious thoughts out on paper. i’m a big fan of a 5 minute KEEP STOP START list where you list all the things you want to keep doing that are supporting you, stop doing that are holding you back, and start doing to show yourself some extra love. it helps you get everything out on paper AND make a game plan towards feeling better

🤳🏼 TAKE A SCREEN BREAK

let your brain take a breath with a break from the constant stimulation, comparison, and content consumption on your devices. i use an app called freedom to block me out of apps for a set period of time because sometimes willpower alone isn’t enough

🎨 DO SOMETHING YOU USED TO LOVE

get out of your head and do something with tactile. think back to the activities you used to love as a kid - coloring, do a puzzle, DIY projects, throw a ball outside, read a book. sloooooow down

☀️ GO OUTSIDE

take a sunset walk to regulate your nervous system. breathe in fresh air, take in the colors around you, and maybe you’ll get really lucky and get to pet a dog on the way

🥘 MAKE A NOURISHING MEAL

show yourself some extra love with a home cooked meal full of nutrients to help your body regulate your mood. put on some music and enjoy the art of cooking

what would you add to the list? 💫

Engaging in self-care can be a powerful antidote, especially when it's accessible and free. These techniques not only foster emotional well-being but also reinforce positive habits. Journaling your thoughts can bring clarity and aid in emotional processing. The KEEP STOP START method is particularly effective as it helps you prioritize what enhances your life while eliminating the negative. Moreover, disconnecting from screens, even briefly, helps mitigate anxiety triggered by constant digital interactions. Consider using apps like Freedom to assist with this. Activities from your childhood, like coloring or playing outside, can reignite joy and creativity. They serve as a reminder that self-care can also be fun and fulfilling. Spending time outdoors, especially during sunrise or sunset, promotes relaxation, helps regulate mood, and connects you to the present moment. Just a simple walk can elevate your mood and reduce feelings of anxiety. Lastly, preparing a nutritious meal not only nourishes your body but also serves as a meditative practice. Cooking can be a soothing activity, transforming an essential task into an act of self-love. Embrace these self-care rituals as a holistic approach to anxiety management and overall wellness.

Such great ideas! I find it interesting how simple these ideas are. They don’t cost an arm and a leg. Maybe we’re meant for the simple life
