“Bio-hacks” that impair metabolism!

Biohacking is a concept that has become popular on social media that claims that we can “hack” our health by doing certain things at certain times to yield optimal health.

In my opinion, a lot of these things don’t consider our actual biology, and also don’t consider the state of the people listening to this advice.

For example, we must consider WHO is doing these things.

We have to understand that too much stress that the body cannot recover from impairs metabolic function.

So if you’re already stressed to the max, adding in further stressors like cold plunges/cold showers, intermittent fasting, low carb diets etc… only adds to that, further impairing metabolic function.

Especially as women, we are more sensitive to stress.

Although a man might be able to fast and cold plunge and do fasted cardio, for us, it places a lot more stress on our bodies which impairs not only our metabolism, but our hormones and has further downstream effects.

I believe that the cause of many of women’s (myself included) health issues occur due to trying to replicate routines that work for men.

Of course, take all of these within context.

A healthy, low stressed 20 year old female might be able to get away with high intensity exercise whereas for a 35 year old, stressed mom with young kids may not.

Don’t just follow everything that you see on the internet!:)

... Read moreBiohacking often promotes various practices aimed at optimizing health, but many fail to recognize individual metabolic responses. For instance, while cold exposure and intermittent fasting may suit some, they can overwhelm others, particularly women. It's essential to understand how different body types react to stressors. Intermittent fasting can lead to hormonal imbalances in women, a factor often overlooked. Additionally, low-carb diets or intense cardio may not align with everyone's biological makeup. Women, especially in various life stages, have unique metabolic needs that require tailored approaches to health. It's crucial to personalize wellness methods instead of adhering strictly to trending practices. Listen to your body's cues and focus on stress management to enhance overall health. Always consult with healthcare providers before relaxing into aggressive routines like fasted workouts or extreme diets, ensuring they fit your personal health profile.
