Worthy of the Calling
Scripture:
"Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power." — 2 Thessalonians 1:11 (NKJV)
Devotional:
As a believer, you have been called into a high and holy destiny. You weren't saved just to wait for heaven; you were saved to manifest the life of heaven on earth. In today’s scripture, Paul prays that God would "count you worthy of this calling."
In the New Testament, being "worthy" is not about earning your salvation through human merit or perfection. Instead, it is about alignment. Just as an ambassador is expected to act in a way that reflects the dignity of their home country, we are called to live in a way that reflects the King who called us. To be counted worthy is to let the reality of who you are in Christ determine how you walk in the world.
Paul also prays that God would "fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power." This is the secret to a productive Christian life: your faith is a "work," but it is fuelled by divine power, not human effort. God has specific assignments—His "good pleasures" that He desires to accomplish through you.
Today, stop wondering if you are "good enough" for God’s plan. Instead, acknowledge that He has already called you. Pray that He would empower every step you take in faith. When your faith meets His power, His goodness becomes visible to everyone around you.
Prayer Activation:
Father, I pray that You would count me worthy of the high calling You have placed on my life. Fulfill every good pleasure of Your goodness in me and empower every work of my faith today with Your mighty power. Amen
Reflecting on 2 Thessalonians 1:11, I've come to appreciate how being "worthy of this calling" isn't about perfection but about aligning our lives with God's purpose. Like an ambassador representing a kingdom, our actions should mirror the dignity of Christ who calls us. This perspective transformed how I approach daily challenges, seeing them as part of a divinely appointed assignment rather than burdens. One personal experience that deepened this understanding was when I faced uncertainty about my path. Instead of doubting my worthiness, I surrendered to God’s power, realizing that my faith is a work energized by Him, not by my effort alone. This shift opened doors to growth and purpose, as I began to witness God's "good pleasure" being fulfilled through seemingly small acts of faith. Moreover, embracing this truth encourages us to stop questioning if we are "good enough". We are already called and empowered. It's about trusting that the divine power working through us delivers results beyond our capabilities. When I started praying daily for God to fulfill His goodness and empower my faith, I noticed a profound peace and boldness in my actions, which positively impacted those around me. Incorporating this scripture into daily life reminds me that my journey is part of a bigger, sacred story. Whenever doubts arise, I meditate on this passage, reinforcing that worthiness comes from Christ's call and His mighty power working through me. This realization instills hope and motivates continual growth in faith, enabling me to live out the heavenly life here on earth as intended.
