Wish you were here.

Hello there, this week we’ll dive into a love story by Renée Carlino “Wish You Were Here”. This one is for all my romance lovers 💖

📖Plot Summary:

Charlotte has always struggled with feeling aimless in life. She didn’t really have a goal or purpose she was chasing—just drifting through jobs, relationships, and decisions without clear direction. Her best friend, Helen, wasn’t much different, and the two of them seemed to coast through life together.

But one night changes everything. While helping Helen navigate a breakup, Charlotte meets Adam—a charming and mysterious man.

Initially, she’s hesitant and tries to resist her usual patterns. But there’s something about Adam. They both feel a strange, unexplainable familiarity with each other. What began as a one-night stand lingers much longer in Charlotte’s heart. Especially after Adam disappears without a trace. 👀

As she searches for answers and attempts to move on, Charlotte unexpectedly finds herself caught in a journey of love, grief, and self-discovery—where healing doesn’t always look like what you expect, and love shows up in the most surprising of places.

💬My thoughts:

This book really took me by surprise. I expected a light romance, but it turned out to be so much more emotional and reflective. The way it explores loss and the complicated ways people grieve was especially moving. 🥺🫀

It’s a very easy and simple read, and I enjoyed going with the flow of the story.

I admire Charlotte’s patience and her quiet longing for something deeper. The book didn’t shy away from the messy, uncomfortable parts of life and love—which made it feel real. It was sad, beautiful, and sometimes frustrating in the best way. But the ending truly made it all worthwhile and surprisingly wholesome.

At its core, this story made me think about the choices we make when it comes to love—whether to wait for someone forever or to continue building your life without them and finding something new, something meant for you…

If you're into emotional reads that go beyond surface-level romance, I definitely recommend this one. It’s a reminder that love doesn’t always arrive the way you expect it—but it can still shift your world in meaningful ways.

It also reminded me of a Netflix movie I recently watched called My Oxford Year (which I highly recommend!! 💯) Though in that story, the girl had her whole life planned out, the emotional depth and themes felt quite similar.

It’s interesting how life plays out differently for everyone—how some things hit close to home while others are totally new. And sometimes, that’s exactly what makes a story stay with you.

📌Favourite Quotes:

1. “If you told me I could have another life, a longer life, but that I couldn’t have you, I’d say no thanks. I’d take you and my short life over and over again.”

2. “Different people connect to different parts of our souls.”

3. “The present is our own. The right‑this‑second, the here‑and‑now, this moment before the next, is ours for the taking. It’s the only free gift the universe has to offer.”

🌀🌀Happy Reading!! & stay tuned for the next review which I’m currently working on; a non-fiction book I just finished that I still need time to process. Lots of love, mindfulchapters :)

... Read moreIf you're intrigued by stories that explore the depths of human connection and the complex emotions tied to love and loss, "Wish You Were Here" offers more than a typical romance. The narrative beautifully captures the uncertainty many of us face when love enters our lives unexpectedly or when it slips away without clear answers. The themes resonate with anyone who has experienced unfulfilled longing or who has had to redefine their understanding of love and healing. Charlotte’s journey teaches us that sometimes, healing isn’t linear, and love doesn’t always arrive on our timeline—sometimes it's about finding meaning in the moments we least expect. Drawing from personal experience, I’ve found that stories like this help us embrace the messy, imperfect parts of relationships, reminding us that it’s okay to grieve and still hope for something new. It’s also refreshing to read a book that doesn’t shy away from the harder emotions but instead invites us to sit with them, reflecting on how they shape us. Moreover, the quotes highlighted from the book really struck a chord, especially the idea that the present moment is the only true gift. This perspective encourages living fully, cherishing the connections we have while opening ourselves to what the future holds. For those who appreciate stories that blend emotional depth with relatable characters struggling with real-life dilemmas, "Wish You Were Here" is a meaningful pick. It pairs well with similar emotionally rich tales like "My Oxford Year," which also explores self-discovery alongside romantic development. In summary, this book is a gentle reminder that love’s impact is profound, often transforming us in unexpected ways, even when the happy ending isn’t clear from the start. It’s perfect for readers who seek romance novels that go beyond clichés to offer something truly heartfelt and authentic.
