is it worth watching?

I read The Housemaid last year and reviewed it here, so I went into the movie already knowing the plot and twists.

Watching the book come to life was honestly really cool and entertaining. Amanda Seyfried’s performance was crazy impressive, and while the movie didn’t go into as much depth with certain characters compared to the book, I’d still highly recommend it.

I watched it during opening week with my siblings and our partners - I was the only one who read the book, but everyone still enjoyed the suspense.

And yes… if you like spicy scenes, the movie definitely delivered that hotel scene. 🥵

So glad I read the book and got to experience the movie too. Looking forward to continuing the series next.

Side note: currently trying to speed-read People We Meet on Vacation because I heard it’s coming to Netflix this Friday 👀

Also got too excited and forgot to say, Happy New Year!! ✨Hope the first week of 2026 has been treating you well.

Wishing everyone a great year of reading ahead too, so as always, happy reading 📚

... Read moreMany viewers often wonder if they should watch The Housemaid without reading the book first. From my experience, the movie stands alone well as a suspenseful psychological thriller, complete with unexpected plot twists and gripping moments. It’s paced quickly, which keeps you engaged, although fans looking for a deeply detailed adaptation might find the film less comprehensive compared to the novel. The hotel scene has sparked a lot of conversation online, especially regarding its uncensored portrayal. It definitely adds a bold element to the movie, so if you appreciate daring cinematography that pushes boundaries a little, this scene delivers. Another aspect I really enjoyed watching was Amanda Seyfried's compelling portrayal, which brought the character's complexity to life in a way that felt authentic and intense. It balances the story's darker themes with moments of vulnerability, making the experience more immersive. If you’re interested in exploring the story further, the original book dives deeper into the characters and their motivations, offering a richer experience. Watching the adaptation after reading the novel gave me an interesting perspective on how filmmakers translate written suspense and tension to the screen. All in all, whether you’re a fan of psychological thrillers or just looking for an entertaining movie to watch with friends or family, The Housemaid is worth the watch. It’s perfect for those who enjoy stories with psychological depth and a bit of spice, wrapped in a fast-paced plot.
