I wanted to love this holiday romance so bad

Another week, another romance read. I’m back with another Hannah Grace🎄

Plot summary:

This book follows Clara, a big-city girl, and Jack, a quieter, small-town guy — both connected through their family businesses. A public controversy involved a stolen idea brings them together and their relationship started off on the wrong foot, with Jack initially disliking Clara.

As expected in a rom-com setup, this book was a classic opposites-attract, forced proximity kind of story, with Hannah Grace’s signature blend of romance and spice🤭🤭

My thoughts:

I went into this book with fairly high expectations, which might have been part of why it didn’t hit as much for me.

The story felt quite predictable, I could tell early on where it was heading and because the spice came in much later, the excitement kind of balanced out or dipped. I wasn’t really surprised but more of like “okay, yeah that’s nice” and was more focused on the other details of the setting of the book instead of the romance part.

I also think timing could have played a role. I was in a phase of reading multiple books at once and the book even auto returned to the library midway, so there was a gap before I could continue which definitely affected my immersion into the book.

✨But that said, this wasn’t really a bad book and Hannah Grace is still very much comfort reads for me. The way her male characters care for and fall for their partners is always so goals; attentive and devoted — and sometimes, that’s enough to enjoy a rom-com.

Anyways, as always happy reading 💕📚

... Read moreAs an avid reader of holiday romance novels, I found Hannah Grace’s work to be a comforting retreat into the familiar warmth of the genre. What stands out in this book is not just the storyline of Clara, a big-city woman, and Jack, a reserved small-town man, but the way their connection feels genuine despite the predictable plot. The public controversy around a stolen idea adds an engaging layer, bringing the two leads together in a way that sparks tension and interest. One of the things I appreciated is how the characters develop through their family business backgrounds, which grounds the romance in a realistic setting. The opposites-attract and forced proximity themes are classic, yes, but Hannah Grace spices it up with moments of tenderness and devotion that feel earned. In particular, Jack’s attentiveness and genuine care toward Clara provide those swoon-worthy moments that fans of romantic comedies crave. Timing and pacing influenced my experience, as mixing multiple books diluted the immersion, but returning to the story later made me notice the subtle details — like the festive ambiance and small-town charm — that enrich the reading. If you enjoy romance novels where the emotional connection matters as much as the plot twists, this holiday read will likely appeal to you. Moreover, the book showcases the challenge of loving fully, especially when past misunderstandings or controversies cloud new relationships. It's a reminder that holiday romances do more than entertain—they offer hope for renewal and connection amid conflicts and complexities. Overall, while this book may not surprise seasoned rom-com readers, it delivers a feel-good experience with beloved tropes and a warm, festive backdrop. It’s a testament to why Hannah Grace remains a cherished author for those looking for tender, attentive love stories that resonate during the holiday season.
