Get rid of flight anxiety ✈️

Lately I’ve been dealing with flight anxiety, which isn’t going to work for me because I LOVE traveling. Here are some natural tips that help me decrease anxiety:

✨ Don’t rush: give yourself time to get to the airport so it’s less stressful. Have a routine.

✨ Stay distracted: always bring something to keep your mind off of the flight. Books, music, etc. Do this before and during the flight.

✨ BREATHE: so important to release tension and regulate your nervous system. Say positive affirmations. Remember that flying is SAFE ✈️

... Read moreDealing with flight anxiety can really put a damper on the excitement of travel, but I've found some methods that genuinely help me relax and even look forward to my flights. If you're like me and often find yourself Googling "how to overcome flight anxiety" or searching for "flight anxiety tips," I hope my personal approach can offer some reassurance and practical strategies. My first and biggest piece of advice is to avoid the rush. This means giving myself ample time. I used to be one of those people who'd cut it close, making the airport dash itself a source of stress. Now, I plan to arrive much earlier than necessary. This means I'm not running through the terminal, getting flustered by security lines, or worrying about gate changes. Instead, I can grab a coffee, browse a shop, or just sit peacefully and observe. This relaxed pace helps set a calmer tone for the entire journey. It's truly amazing how much less anxious I feel when I'm not rushing my flight. I’ve even started taking a moment to look at the planes through the big windows, reminding myself of the incredible engineering that goes into safe travel. Next, staying distracted is key for me, both before and during the flight. My carry-on is always packed with essentials to keep my mind engaged. This could be a gripping novel, a fascinating podcast, a playlist of calming music, or even a journal to jot down thoughts. The OCR on my images mentions using a laptop or calling loved ones, and these are great ideas too! I’ve found that focusing on something external prevents my mind from spiraling into anxious thoughts about turbulence or worst-case scenarios. Sometimes, I even pre-download a few episodes of a lighthearted show or a documentary. It’s not about ignoring the flight, but rather about consciously choosing where to direct my attention. If I'm flying with someone, a good conversation can also be a wonderful distraction. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, is the power of breathing. When anxiety hits, shallow breathing is often the culprit, signaling to your body that you’re in danger. I practice deep, controlled breathing – often the 4-7-8 method (inhale for 4, hold for 7, exhale for 8) or simple box breathing. This helps to regulate my nervous system and release tension. Alongside breathing, I use positive affirmations. I remind myself that flying is incredibly safe; there are professional pilots at the controls, and thousands of flights take off and land safely every single day. The view from an airplane window, with clouds below and endless blue sky, can also be a reminder of the vastness and wonder of it all, shifting focus from fear to awe. Sometimes, I even visualize myself arriving happily at my destination, which helps to replace anxious thoughts with positive anticipation. These simple yet powerful techniques have transformed my flight experience, making travel enjoyable again.

How Unresolved Trauma Leads to Anxiety
I wish more people knew that when there are emotions that go unresolved and unaddressed, they don't just magically vanish out of nowhere... but in reality, they get stored deeply in our bodies, where it then feels as though we get anxiety "out of nowhere" or for "no reason.&#3
