When I think of a 'BIG BREAKFASTS' US style, it’s not just a meal; it’s an experience! And honestly, making it at home is way easier than you think. I'm going to share my go-to American breakfast ideas and recipes so you can recreate this deliciousness. First up, Pancakes! Forget those sad, flat ones. For truly fluffy pancakes, I always use a mix (no shame in a good quality one!) and add a splash of milk and an egg. The key is not to overmix the batter – a few lumps are totally fine. When cooking, I like to use a mix of Oil and Butter in my pan. The butter gives that rich flavor, and the oil helps prevent burning. Cook on medium heat until you see bubbles on top, then flip! Serve with maple syrup, of course. Next, Eggs. For a classic American breakfast, I usually go for scrambled or sunny-side up. For scrambled, cook them low and slow with a little milk or cream for extra fluffiness. If you're doing sunny-side up, a trick I learned is to 'baste' them with hot oil from the pan, or even 'cover' the pan for a minute towards the end to steam the tops slightly, which sets the whites without overcooking the yolk. Sometimes I use a good Olive Oil for frying my eggs, especially if I want a slightly richer taste. And who can forget Bacon? I swear by baking my bacon in the oven. Lay strips on a wire rack over a baking sheet (makes cleanup easier!). Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until it's perfectly crispy just how you like it. No more standing over a splattering pan! Finally, Hash Browns. These are non-negotiable for a true American spread. Grate your potatoes, then rinse them really well and squeeze out as much moisture as possible – this is crucial for crispiness! I then fry them in a generous amount of neutral Oil (like vegetable or canola oil) over medium-high heat until they're golden brown and crispy on both sides. Don't crowd the pan, and resist flipping them too soon! Season generously with salt and pepper. To bring it all together for the ultimate American breakfast experience, I love adding some fresh fruit on the side, maybe a glass of orange juice and, of course, a hot cup of coffee.
