Cassata Cake
This desert is essentially an Italian cannoli cake. What is it actually though? It’s a marble cake with chocolate chips instead, a cannoli filling in between the cake layer and all around to stick slivered almonds all over. Traditionally made with ricotta cheese and a marzipan on top. My work does more of the ‘Cleveland’ Cassata that is sweet cream custard and whipped cream on top.
Usually it’s a pretty sweet cake but this isn’t really sweet but really good. Have you ever tried this?

Cassata Cake is a traditional Italian dessert that originates from Sicily, renowned for its rich, layered structure and distinct flavors. The combination of marble cake and cannoli filling makes it a unique indulgence, often garnished with slivered almonds or colorful marzipan. To create a typical Cassata, bakers often use ricotta cheese as a base for the filling, which is lightened with sugar and sometimes flavored with citrus zest or chocolate. This not only adds depth to the cake but infuses it with a refreshing taste that balances the sweetness. Cleveland's version of Cassata Cake introduces cream custard as a modern twist, topped with whipped cream, which adds an airy texture to the dense cake layers. This variation provides a mellow sweetness, making it more approachable for those who prefer desserts that are not overly sweet. If you're interested in trying your hand at baking this delightful treat, consider experimenting with different fillings and toppings to personalize your cake. Some even incorporate fresh fruits or colorful chocolate pieces between layers for a more vibrant presentation. Whether you serve it at a family gathering or an intimate dinner, Cassata Cake is sure to impress and tantalize your taste buds.
