Thriftmas!

This year I got into thrifting and decided it would be fun to thrift Christmas gifts! The process of finding the items, relating them to the person they’re going to and being able to express my love for them through my creativity was very rewarding 🥰 I definitely want to make it my holiday tradition. If anyone else thrifted this Christmas I would love to see what you’ve found!

... Read moreGetting into the spirit of Thriftmas this year was such a joy, and I'm so excited to share more about how you can embrace this wonderful trend for your own holiday gifting! It's not just about saving money; it’s about the thrill of the hunt, the sustainability aspect, and finding truly unique items that you simply can't buy new. For those looking for fantastic 'Thriftmas gift ideas for family' or just general 'thriftmas ideas,' here are some of my top tips and inspirations to help you find those perfect treasures: 1. Start Early & Have a Flexible Plan: Thrifting takes time and patience. Don't wait until the last minute! I usually have a person in mind and a few general ideas, but I always stay open to unexpected finds. Sometimes the perfect gift isn't what you initially envisioned, but something even better catches your eye. 2. Think About Personal Interests: What hobbies or passions do your loved ones have? This can guide your search. For instance, for a partner who loves movies and popcorn, a unique popcorn bowl found secondhand could be adorable. For someone who loves cooking, a vintage cookbook like 'Kitchen Comforts' or a charming teapot (like the apple-shaped one I found for a coworker!) makes a thoughtful and practical gift. 3. Cozy & Comforting Finds: Vintage sweaters are a Thriftmas staple! I was so excited to find several this year, including a vibrant red one with snowman appliques and a blue one featuring skiers and pine trees, plus a blue zippered one with a winter village scene. These are perfect for family members who appreciate a touch of nostalgia or a 'grandmacore' aesthetic. Look for good quality knits, blankets, or even unique scarfs. 4. Upcycle & Personalize: Sometimes, a thrifted item is just a starting point. A plain wooden box could be painted or decoupaged. A simple glass vase can be filled with fairy lights. For example, a beautiful seashell box could be filled with homemade treats like decorated gingerbread cookies (as I did!). Adding a personal touch makes the thrifted gift even more special and shows the effort you put in. 5. Gifts for Fellow Thrifters: If you have friends or family who also love thrifting, consider finding items that complement their hobby. This could be a stylish tote bag for their thrifting adventures, unique display pieces for their own finds, or vintage tools if they enjoy upcycling. 6. Presentation is Key: Once you've found your thrifted treasures, make sure to clean them thoroughly. Thoughtful wrapping can elevate any gift. Use eco-friendly wrapping paper, fabric scraps, or even newspaper for a unique look. Always include a handwritten note explaining why you chose that particular item – the story behind a thrifted find often makes it even more cherished. Thriftmas has truly transformed my holiday gifting into a more meaningful and creative experience. I hope these 'thriftmas gift ideas' inspire you to try it out this year too! It's incredibly rewarding to give gifts that are not only unique but also kind to your wallet and the planet.
