I love when people come up to my booth to look at my art! As a shopper, I dislike when people try to sales pitch me immediately as I walk up. Personally, I like to get a greeting from wherever I’m shopping from and then have my own time to look around without a massive conversation. I know everyone is different so I try to respect my customers at my booth and give them the space they need. I’m always there to answer questions and help out if they need anything but I also don’t wanna come off as pushy or aggressive. #artistalley #customerservice #artistsoninstagram #retailtherapy #artistatiktok

When a shopper approaches my booth, I make it a point to greet them warmly but then step back slightly so they don’t feel pressured to start a long conversation immediately. This approach allows customers to take their time appreciating the artwork without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. I’ve noticed that maintaining an open and inviting posture without constantly staring helps customers feel comfortable knowing they can ask questions whenever they want. This is important because some buyers like to observe quietly at first and only engage once they’re ready. Over time, I’ve realized that pushy sales tactics often drive people away, so respecting each visitor’s personal space improves their overall experience and increases the likelihood of a sale. Additionally, gently offering assistance when a customer seems interested or curious has worked well. For example, using friendly phrases like "Let me know if you have any questions" or "I’m here if you want to chat about the art" signals availability without pressure. By combining an approachable look with respectful distance, I’ve been able to foster genuine conversations and connections with shoppers, which enriches both their visit and my own creative practice. Balancing customer engagement with personal space not only builds trust but also reflects professionalism and excellent customer service at artist alleys, markets, or exhibitions. Each artist may find their unique rhythm, but being mindful of these dynamics can elevate the booth experience for both artists and customers.
