Local Fusion Cafe that is pet-friendly in the East

Seng House — Hainanese-Western Café in Tanjong Katong

A local cuisine fusion café tucked away in Katong, with a really nice vibe and an outdoor seating area that is pet-friendly 🌿🐾. I tried a few dishes and honestly enjoyed most of them. The Hainanese pork chop with tomato sauce was juicy on the inside and very crispy on the outside — surprisingly good. The claypot chicken rice was super flavorful, and the claypot itself added that slightly crispy, smoky layer that made it even better 🍚🔥. The wat dan hor tasted like a classic hor fun loaded with seafood; nothing too special, but still comforting and satisfying.

I also tried their desserts, and they were a pleasant surprise. The frozen ondeh and durian crème brûlée both had that familiar local dessert flavor, but done in a more modern way 🍨✨. A nice spot if you are around Katong and want something local with a twist.

... Read moreVisiting Seng House offers more than just the food; it's the atmosphere that truly enhances the dining experience. The outdoor seating area surrounded by greenery provides a relaxing environment for both diners and their pets, which is a rare find in the East. From personal experience, bringing my dog along made the visit even more enjoyable as we both felt welcomed without any hassle. The fusion of Hainanese and Western flavors caught me by surprise with how well they blended, especially in the pork chop that balanced crispy textures with juicy tenderness. I found the claypot chicken rice particularly special—the smokiness from the claypot added a depth of flavor often missing in similar dishes elsewhere. For those who love seafood, the wat dan hor might not stand out as the most innovative dish, but its comforting familiarity made it a solid choice for a casual meal. On the dessert front, the frozen ondeh refreshed my palate with its distinct pandan and coconut flavors presented in a cool, textured format. Meanwhile, the durian crème brûlée was a delightful twist, combining creamy custard with the tropical aroma of durian, which is a must-try for locals and adventurous eaters alike. Overall, Seng House is a gem for foodies who appreciate local flavors with a creative twist in a pet-friendly setting. Whether stopping by for a hearty meal or an indulgent dessert, it offers a unique taste of Katong’s diverse food culture.

Pet-friendly brunch by the sea? Yes please. 🐶
Today’s feature for our pet-friendly series: Jypsy at Parkland Green – a coastal Japanese-fusion spot at East Coast Park with pet-friendly outdoor seating. The alfresco area is shaded and nicely windy, so it was comfortable for both us and the pup. Food: 8.5/10 – flavourful and great for sharing
