What I eat at home as Korean in SG part3
loveeee home food so much❤️
Living as a Korean in Singapore, I find great comfort in preparing and enjoying home-cooked meals that remind me of family gatherings back in Korea. One of my favorites has to be bulgogi and la galbi—marinated beef and ribs that are both flavorful and tender. My dad often helps marinate the beef, making it extra special with his unique touch. Aside from the meats, I love making dishes like steamed egg (계란찜) which is smooth and delicate, perfect for pairing with the hearty flavors of grilled meats. Korean sides or banchan such as spicy radish (무생채), pickled cucumbers (오이지), and acorn jelly (도토리묵) add refreshing and varied textures to the meal. Sometimes, I also prepare seafood yaki udon (해물볶음우동), a stir-fried seafood noodle dish combining savory flavors with chewy noodles. I often indulge in comfort food like tteokbokki, spicy rice cakes simmered in a sweet and spicy sauce, perfect for snacking or sharing with friends. For special occasions, Korean BBQ nights at church or with family bring a warm, communal vibe where everyone gathers around the grill. Making these dishes at home in Singapore comes with some challenges, especially sourcing authentic ingredients. But local markets and Korean grocery stores make it manageable. Cooking these meals not only connects me to my heritage but also introduces my Singaporean friends to the rich culture and delicious tastes of Korea. Sharing these recipes and experiences has deepened my appreciation for home-made Korean food, and I always look forward to growing my collection of dishes while living abroad.
