There are two Shirahama beaches in Shimoda, "Shirahama Ohama Beach" and "Shirahama Chuo Beach." Shirahama Ohama Beach is popular with surfers because it features Izu's largest wide sandy beach and emerald green sea, and Shirahama Chuo Beach is quiet and popular with families, and it is a beach where you can enjoy barbecue. Both boast high transparency and beautiful sea.
Shirahama Ohama Beach
Characteristics: It is a vast white sand beach of about 700 to 800 m, the largest in the Izu Peninsula.
Atmosphere: Bustling with surfers and young people every year, the contrast between the white sand and the emerald green sea is beautiful.
Other: Facing the national highway, it has a sense of openness, and according to the Izu Shirahama Tourist Association, it has been selected as one of the 88 best bathing beaches in Japan.
Shirahama Chuo Beach
Features:
It is a short walk from Shirahama Ohama Beach and has a relatively calm atmosphere.
Atmosphere:
Popular with families, you can enjoy the resort feeling in a quiet space.
Other:
It is the only place in Shimoda where you can enjoy barbecue inside the beach, and it has been selected as one of the 100 best bathing beaches in Japan.
Shirahama Itado Coast (Isshiki Coast):
Located on the south side of Shirahama Ohama, you can enjoy playing on the shore and snorkeling.
Access:
All the beaches are easily accessible from Shimoda City, and tourist associations also rent out rental items.
白浜海岸は、夏のレジャーにぴったりのスポットとして私も毎年訪れています。特に白浜大浜海水浴場は約700～800mにわたる広い砂浜が魅力で、朝の静けさから日中の賑わいまで、多彩な海辺の表情を楽しめます。サーフィンをする人が多いですが、海水は驚くほど透明で、水中の砂紋や小さな魚の姿もはっきり見えるのが印象的です。 一方、白浜中央海水浴場は静かな環境で、子ども連れの家族に特に 人気です。ここではビーチ内でバーベキューができるので、夏休みの思い出作りにぴったり。いくつかのテーマパーク的な設備はないものの、その自然の美しさが何よりの魅力です。 また、白浜板戸海岸（別名一色海岸）では磯遊びやシュノーケリングが楽しめるので、飽きずに海を満喫できます。私はここで初めてシュノーケリングにチャレンジしましたが、かわいい魚たちや美しい岩場の風景に感動しました。 アクセスもしやすく、レンタル品の貸し出しもあるため、手ぶらで訪れても安心です。晴れた日の青空の下、白い砂浜と透き通る海に包まれて過ごす時間は格別。静岡県下田の魅力を存分に味わえるスポットとしておすすめです。
