Packing for glamis

Hey fellow adventurers! Planning a trip to Glamis? It's an incredible experience, but trust me, packing right is KEY to a stress-free and super fun time in the dunes. I've made my share of packing mistakes over the years, so I'm here to share my ultimate Glamis camping gear checklist based on real trips and lessons learned. Getting your gear sorted means more time enjoying the sand and less time wishing you'd brought something! First up, Shelter & Shade are non-negotiable. Heavy-duty coolers, like rotomolded ones, are worth their weight in gold for keeping ice frozen for days. And most importantly: WATER, WATER, WATER! Bring way more than you think you'll need for drinking, cooking, and basic washing. I aim for at least a gallon per person per day, plus extra for dishes. Stick to easy-to-prepare meals and plenty of snacks. Don't forget biodegradable soap and plenty of trash bags – remember, pack it in, pack it out! For Personal Comfort & Hygiene, protect yourself from the elements. Sunscreen, wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and lip balm are vital. Dust is everywhere in Glamis, so dust masks or bandanas are fantastic. Baby wipes are a lifesaver for quick clean-ups, along with hand sanitizer. Camp chairs and a portable table make a huge difference for comfort. And for lighting, headlamps are great for hands-free tasks, while lanterns and string lights add a cozy camp ambiance. Safety & Emergency gear can't be overlooked. A comprehensive first-aid kit, a fire extinguisher (especially if you have vehicles or a fire pit), and basic tool kit are essential. Cell service is spotty at best, so consider walkie-talkies or even a satellite messenger for communication. If you're bringing off-road vehicles (which most do in Glamis!), recovery gear like a tow strap, shovel, and an air compressor for tires are absolute must-haves. Always have a way to navigate, whether it's GPS or physical maps, and let someone know your plans. Finally, don't forget the Fun & Extras! A portable fire pit (propane or wood, depending on regulations) for s'mores and warmth, sand toys for kids (and adults!), and a camera to capture all those amazing desert memories.
